Letter from the Principal
Findley Families,
Can you believe we only have 19 days left in this school year?! This year has flown by!
In the most recent BSD Brief sent out this past Monday, Superintendent Grotting shared some updated budget news. This news included the information that our calendar for the 2019-2020 school-year will be impacted. Early Release Wednesdays have been eliminated for next year meaning we will be returning to a 175-day school year. Due to these changes, a new 2019-2020 calendar has been be created. At this time, our return date for the 2019-2020 school year is Tuesday, September 3. Back to school events have not been scheduled yet, but you can stay up-to-date on this by frequently checking the district and our school websites. We will be sure to keep information up-to-date.
The reduction of days adds money back into the system, previous staffing allocations are subject to change. Although we do not know for sure, our original allocation of 23 classroom teachers, most likely will increase by at least one, if not more. This will help keep class sizes down in the 2019-2020 school, and reduce the number of lay-off this year.
In other news this week we learned that HB 3427, The Student Success Act, passed the Senate and is headed to the governor’s desk for her signature to be signed into law. This is an incredible victory for kids and would not have happened without all of your tireless advocacy, thank you!
Here at Findley, we have busy with state testing, preparing for fifth grade exhibition and of course, lots and lots of learning! All 26 classrooms have been outfitted with an Apple TV cart, iPad and pen which will replace the outdated, and in some cases non-functioning LCD projectors. These TVs and iPads have enhanced the learning experience in each classroom, by allowing for easy projection of student work, teacher models, videos, and much much more! Thank you to our Findley community and our fabulous PTO for using funds raised this year to purchase these for each of our classrooms.

Findley Carnival - June 7th
The Findley Carnival is near! We are set for Friday, June 7th with food, fun and games! As we get closer to the date, we will of course be looking for volunteers. Our celebration this year surrounds the actual theme of a 'Carnival'. We hope to see our students and community there! Pre-Sales for this event will start in Mid-May.

Findley Flyer Needs Volunteers!!!
Just 2 more weeks left for Findley Flyers this year! Check in with your child and see if they are working towards a major milestone this year. Part of the goal setting process is checking in to see if you’re on track and making adjustments if necessary. If you haven’t yet, it’s a great time to come on Thursday mornings and get some extra running time in. Parents & siblings are always welcome to join on Thursdays for that extra motivation (and maybe sneak in some exercise yourselves!)
May 28th - Final Tuesday running club and the Flip Flop Fun Run! Just a little extra excitement to end Findley Flyers for the year. No, we don’t run in flip flops but we do have a lot fun. We need lots of volunteers to make this successful, so please sign up to help if you can!
May 30th - Final Thursday morning running club. One final chance to earn some miles. After this, we’ll start counting up miles for the year and preparing for next year.

Findley Art Literacy - May
Our final Art Literacy lesson for this school year is inspired by the Dutch painter Jan Vermeer (1632-1675). Vermeer enjoyed little artistic recognition during his short life. Today, he is ranked among the greatest Dutch masters. His most frequent subjects were intimate interiors showing people doing everyday activities -- this type of painting is called a genre painting. Although his paintings are modest in theme, they exhibit a profound serenity and a splendor of execution that are unsurpassed.
Findley students will be creating portraits inspired by 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' using a variety of different drawing materials. Make sure to ask your student about their artistic process!
