Valentine’s Day Love Around Town
Students in several classes made Valentines that will be distributed to senior citizens who live alone in the Newburyport area. This project was done in conjunction with Newburyport Youth Services. Our students are spreading kindness and love to people in our community! Thanks to students in the following classes: Mrs. Olson, Mrs. Lawler, Mrs. Gasbarro and Mrs. Tomasz. Their cards will bring cheer to local senior citizens!
Mrs. O’Malley’s class worked with students from Newburyport's Art Honor Society to create hearts with various art techniques. The hearts are now on display at The Cookie Jar Kitchen!
Mrs. Lawler’s class filled up “a box of chocolates” with many reasons why they love living in Newburyport! These are now on display at The Candy Man!
We Celebrated our 100th Day of School!
A Message from our Nurses:
We have seen an increase of conjunctivitis throughout the school. Conjunctivitis also known as “pinkeye” is a common eye problem in children. It is an inflammation of the thin transparent membrane (conjunctiva) that covers the entire eyeball, except the cornea.
Conjunctivitis can be: allergic (itchy, watery, pink eyes, swollen lids); due to a foreign body in the eye (tearing, pain, redness); viral (usually follows an upper respiratory infection, pink eyes, watery discharge, swollen lids); or bacterial (thick yellowish discharge, pink eyes, swollen lids, crusting of the eyelids, especially upon awakening).
Bacterial conjunctivitis is very contagious and is easily spread. When children rub their eyes and then touch someone else or objects, such as pencils and crayons, they can pass the bacteria along. If your child develops the symptoms of conjunctivitis, please have him or her evaluated by a physician to determine if a course of antibiotics is needed and notify your school nurse of the diagnosis.
Preventing the spread of this infection to family and classmates requires the following:
1. Do not return to school until antibiotic treatment has been followed for at least 24 hours.
2. Use tissues to wipe discharge from the inner corner of the eye down and outward. Discard tissue.
3. Do not rub your eyes.
4. Wash hands frequently.
5. Warm, moist compresses can be used to remove the crusting. The medication should be applied after the eye is clean.
6. Keep the child’s washcloth and towel separate from the rest of the family’s.
7. Change pillow cases frequently and do not share pillows.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,

NYS OOCH THANK YOU!
We would like to thank the nearly 200 families that joined the Ooch Experience this winter! We can’t wait to do more!
Our one regret is not getting a list of everyone who attended. This event was funded by our prevention grant as we build protective factors in children and provide supports to parents. Collecting data on how many people attended is important for future funding.
If you attended any of the nights, would you please log in and register your family for the program? This would help us with tracking data.
If you do not have an account with NBPT Rec (NYS), please create a new account and then head to register for programs and look up Ooch.
Here’s the link to Register: City of Newburyport: Skills for Life with the OOch Experience (myrec.com)
And here’s the link to Jason Mraz song “I feel like dancing” that Brett used throughout the series!
And if we owe you a yo-yo, they’re on their way. We will let you know next week.
Sincerely,
Andrea Egmont
