Dr. Hudson's Weekly Family Message
March 31, 2025

Cedar Hill ISD Families & Community,
It’s that time of year again. The Easter Egg baskets are out, the Texas Rangers are swinging the bats again and it’s not too hot or too cold outside, but just right. Meanwhile, on campus, we’re in standardized testing mode with the first week of the STAAR Test. This can often be an overwhelming time for scholars and staff. I remember it well from my days as a classroom teacher.
However, there are steps we can take to mentally and physically prepare ourselves in an effort to avoid unnecessary stress.
- At this point, scholars should be prepared to understand the test’s structure and the types of questions that will be asked. Practice is the most important element of the exam, and we know that our educators have put our scholars in the best possible position to succeed.
- While taking the test, avoid negative self-talk with self-affirmation such as “I’m prepared, and I’ll give it my best effort.”
- The night before the exam should involve a relaxing activity such as listening to music or spending time with friends and/or family.
You can’t control every element of the testing experience, but confidence, physical well-being and proper rest can increase your chances of performing well on the STAAR Exam.
