World Down Syndrome Day
March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) a global day of celebration and awareness that has been observed by the United Nations since 2012 to educate the world on what Down syndrome is and how individuals with Down syndrome need to be valued in their communities. The date for WDSD — the 21st day of the 3rd month — this represents the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which is commonly called “Down syndrome”, named after Dr. John Langdon Down, a British physician who classified the syndrome.
Every year on March 21, people all around the world celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly colored or mismatched socks. Please join us in celebrating by "Rocking Your Socks" and wearing brightly colored or mismatched socks. Below is a picture from a Marathon classroom celebrating WDSD 2024!
