FMS Discipline Update
Through the past few months, discipline infractions have diminished consistently at FMS. The most significant improvement can be seen among 6th grade students who have had a down turn in discipline infractions for 3 consecutive months. Though the number of major infractions remains consistent among students, minor infractions have decreased throughout all grades. The most common contributor to minor infractions is disrespectful behavior. To combat such behavior, students have been provided lessons during Falcon Period on the importance of respect and how to demonstrate a respectful attitude toward others.
Through the schoolβs PBIS initiative, students are encouraged to behave in a positive manner daily. Schoolwide systems and supports are in place to foster a culture that is inclusive and supportive of all students. The implementation of restorative practices has provided students with the opportunity to complete course work to reduce assigned consequences. Restorative approaches include; writing apology letters, journaling, watching informative videos, and meeting with FMS counselors and administrators to discuss proper approaches to challenging situations. It is our hope the effort put forth by FMS teachers and staff members will assist students in developing qualities that reflect the values of our school and community.

Leadership Skills Seminar
Recently some of our students went on a leadership seminar field trip and their assignment was to create a community involvement program/event to help support a need within their school district/community. Our group of students decided to focus on getting a/c for our middle school building. They worked collaboratively to advocate for why an a/c unit is a crucial component of their learning environment. As a group, they created a plan for how they would obtain it. Their idea was to hold a community event, where revenue would be generated through the use of a snow cone truck. They chose a snow cone truck to stay on theme with the need for their a/c unit. Once a plan was developed and their poster/flyer was created, they collaboratively presented to the rest of the schools at the event. Our students did an excellent job working together to come up with a shared goal and a plan for how they would reach that goal. Great job everyone!
8th Grade Band News πΆ
The eighth grade band is doing something very special this February and March. They are joining the high school band on the song βStone Gardensβ for a winter concert. This piece of literature is dedicated to the men and women of the military who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom and to those honored veterans who still carry the torch of freedom today. It is inspired by the monument that stands in Norfolk, VA honoring those that have served our country. The concert is March 6 in the high school gym at 7:00 p.m. Students should report to the high school choir room at 6:30 dressed in black bottoms and white tops/shirts. Hope to see you all at this winter concert.

My Child is Not Feeling Well. Should I Send Him/Her To School? π¦
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope this newsletter finds you and your family in good health. As we navigate through the school year, it's essential to address the well-being of our students, especially when it comes to their health. Here's a guide with some resources to help you make informed decisions about when to send your child to school and where to go for quick care.
When to keep your child home from school:
- Fever: Keep your child home if they have a fever of 100.4Β°F or higher. Wait until they are fever free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medications.
- Symptoms: Consider the severity of symptoms. If your child experiences persistent coughing, extreme fatigue, or difficulty breathing, it's best to keep them home until these symptoms improve.
- Contagious Period: Ensure your child is no longer contagious before sending them back to school to prevent the spread of illness.
- Notification: Inform the school as soon as possible if your child is unwell.
Quick Care: Urgent Care or ER? Where to Go?
Navigating the healthcare system can be challenging. Please see the attached document below titled "Quick Care, Urgent Care, or ER: Where to Go?" It offers valuable information to help you determine the appropriate care for your child's needs.
Cold, Flu, or COVID-19?
In these times, distinguishing between symptoms can be tricky. Please click on the document below or visit our website for guidance on identifying whether your child is experiencing a cold, the flu, or symptoms associated with COVID-19.
The Flu: A Guide for Parents
Flu season is upon us and being informed is the first step in prevention and care. Check out the guide below on dealing with the flu and keeping your child healthy. We encourage you to explore these resources on our website for detailed information on these crucial topics.
Your child's health is of the utmost importance to us, and together, we can create a safe and nurturing environment for all. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to the school nurse or administrative staff.
We here at FMS are wishing you and your family continued health and well-being.
Attention Sixth Grade Parents
This letter is to inform you of the immunization requirements for (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis), as a booster to the initial series of required doses. Ohio is requiring the Tdap vaccine, as opposed to Td, to protect against Pertussis (whooping cough). In addition to the Tdap, your child is also required to receive the Meningococcal vaccine prior to the entry into Grade 7. The Meningococcal vaccine prevents bacteria that is commonly spread from person to person, especially in teens and young adults. These bacteria can cause meningitis, which is an infection of the fluid and lining surrounding the brain and spinal cord; it can also enter the bloodstream, causing sepsis. Please contact your health care provider to schedule an appointment to receive the vaccines your child will need for the next year. For a complete list of immunization requirements for school-age children in the State of Ohio, please go to: www.odh.ohio.gov/odhPrograms/dis/Immunization/imunchsc.aspx REQUIRED 7th Grade shots (2 shots): Β· Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis) Β· Meningococcal vaccine
