Make Reading a Family Event with HUMPHREY!
Welcome, Humphrey!
Dear West Freehold School Families,
We are excited to announce that West Freehold School is taking part in a community-wide shared reading event once again!
This week, our students were introduced to the book The World According to Humphrey, by Betty G Birney. Each West Freehold School family received a copy of the book and a special bookmark which includes the reading schedule (also, listed above). Our hope is for each family to make time to participate in this special reading event and create special memories of their own!
Reading to your children is important because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader and it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. Reading professionals recommend reading material out loud that is beyond a child’s own reading level. We also believe that you can and should continue reading chapter books with your older children, even when they are able to read by themselves. We have selected The World According to Humphrey because it can be followed, understood and enjoyed by younger students, but will still captivate and stimulate older children. In addition, there are many underlying themes that will provide parents with opportunities to talk with their children about friendship, acceptance and kindness.
We know that you will enjoy this special reading time with your family. When a whole school reads a book, there’s a lot to talk about. With your help, we can build a Community of Readers at West Freehold School!
Warm regards,
Anne Kuras
WFS Principal

Supervisor of Instruction
