March Newsletter
Greetings HFMS Families,
Well, we are on the home stretch now to another successful year at HFMS. I want to thank you all for your support and collaboration as we work together towards ensuring the best possible education for your child. As we look towards the final marking period for the year, please take time to review your childโs progress to date. Students must pass ELA and Math for the year as well as passing either Social Studies or Science. Some students still have some work to do to make sure they are safe in these areas. At the same time, it has also been my experience that even students who are in good shape for the year can sometimes lose focus and develop cases of โspring feverโ, hence putting their final grades in jeopardy. Rest assured that we are having those pep talks here at school and if they hear the same message at home it can help to prevent any potential heartbreak down the road.
It is my extreme hope that we all finish the year strong and lay the foundation for another successful year to come as we look ahead to next school year. I know, itโs not even Spring Break yet and Iโm talking about next year but I think you get the point. Having said that, itโs great to know that we braved the winter together and sunnier days are ahead. We were also able to keep all of our planned days off intact and will not have to add any days to the calendar โ so thereโs that! And while Iโm sure none of us will miss virtual instruction days (NTID), they were able to serve that purpose. Thank you again for your support in that process.
As always, please do not ever hesitate to reach out to myself or our admin team if there are questions or concerns you have at any time throughout the school year.
Take care,
Eric R. Vandell
Principal, HFMS
๐ Attendance Update
Our currently Average Daily Attendance rate is at 93.59%. Our students have been crushing their goal of "Roar to Success, Miss 9 days or less." We have 249 students with no attendance concerns and 44 students who have not missed a single day of school this year.
Please continue to encourage good attendance with your children and keep an eye out for an updated attendance letter being sent with report cards this week. These letters focus on your child's Chronic Attendance Level. Here is breakdown of those levels:
- Chronically Absent (Red)
- Missing 10% or more of instructional time
- Needs Attention (Yellow)
- Missing between 5% and 10% of instructional time
- No Attendance Issues (Green)
- Missing less than 5% of instructional time
Let's Roar to Success, and Miss 9 Days or Less!
๐ซ Student Council Update
Harpers Ferry Student Council is off to an exciting start! We hosted our first school-wide event, the Harpers Ferry Hearts Dance in February. We also opened our school store, The Tiger Den! Students are able to come purchase school related items, including water bottles, pencils, stationary, snacks, and more. The school store is open each morning from 7:35-8:08am and every Friday during 4th period. The school store if fully operated by the student council and funds go to providing for our school.
