Dear SAIS Community,

It is wonderful to see that the end of Term 2 has arrived so quickly. I want to thank you all for the support and patience shown these past seven months. We had a number of successes and some challenges. Still, we continued all the work to ensure the safety and educational needs of our students. There are countless people to whom I owe an expression of gratitude and hope that we continue working together in the coming years.

I would like to thank our hard working and caring staff who have made a huge difference to our students. Their commitment is outstanding. Thank you, my colleagues, for providing rich, engaging and well-rounded experiences for our students and knowing that education is about wonder, creativity, and fostering curiosity, along with the development of those social skills needed to succeed.

I am also delighted that starting the beginning of Term 3 all our students will return back to school. We will continue to increase our opportunities for parents to visit the school campus in Term 3 and engage more in school life, as we cautiously take steps to increase face-to-face connections.

The 100th day of school is literally the 100th Day of the academic year. More importantly, it is a great way for kindergarten and elementary school students and teachers to celebrate the various writing and mathematical concepts that can be developed using the number 100.

The UAE's celebration of Emirati Children's Day reflects the country's commitment to providing the best health care services for children including people of determination to ensure their proper physical, mental and psychological development.

Our experience at Sharjah American International School could be summarized with this reflection from one KG1 teacher, Mrs. Farah Safa, "Yesterday was absolutely nice when my students understood the concept of their rights as children, especially when they added their own rights. For example, one student said, "My right is to have my mom helping me to cross the street.". Another student said, "My right is to have my mom cover me during night if I'm cold!"

Haq Al Laila is an integral custom of the Emirati traditions. The tradition of Haq Al Laila is celebrated on the 15th of Sha’ban, the month before Ramadan. Sharjah American International School celebrated with the KG and ES students on Thursday, March 17th.

It was a special day for our students.

Displaying students' work sends several important messages:

1. As teachers, we value what our students do during the learning process.
2. Each class belongs to the students as much as the teachers.
3. Our classrooms, students share their work, so that we can learn from each other.
4. Students will always have a reference for how well they are doing in class.
5. Students can use their own work samples as study aids.

The students of Sharjah American International School are demonstrating how they have learning concepts and skills from daily lessons in creative ways.

A great way to continuously motivate our students to be attentive in class and to have full participation is to routinely display their work samples so that they can reflect and revise their thinking and completion of various tasks.

We will continue to share what your children see in class and in the hallways.

Scientific knowledge can improve the quality of life at many distinct levels. Science is absorbed better when students apply what they’ve acquired. Whether this application was done through experiments or through virtual labs, students will gain many skills such as problem-solving, data organization and analysis, and independent learning.

Grade 8 students, Ahmad Hatem (8C) and Jamal Murad (8B) made science fun by creating different demonstrations to compare ionic and covalent compounds/bonds. Ahmad did the comparison through some experiments, and Jamal did it through a virtual lab simulation.

On March 10, 2022, the school celebrated International Day. This year's theme was Celebrating Diversity . This special event is coordinated each year to bring the school community together for a day of sharing of cultural dress, traditions, and languages, not to mention the sampling of delicious food from around the globe.

What better way to inspire international mindedness in students!

The Parents' and Teachers' Association participated in the International Day activities. Members from the PTA created activities, organized competitions, and distributed gifts for the winners.

On Thursday, March 3, 2022, students at SAIS had a joyful morning. Students arrived to school with their weird bags on “Weird Bags Day”. There were bags of all shapes, designs, colors, and patterns. There were many fabulous and creative ideas of bags. Great job everyone!

Graduation is an important milestone and is full of traditions: Caps and gowns measurement, Senior Breakfast, and rehearsals to name a few. All members of the senior class were measured for their graduation caps and gowns on February 7, 2022. Seniors were happy on this "big" day, anticipating their BIG day.

Look Your Best and Shine in Your Graduation Gowns!

5 Easy Steps for you:

1. Immediately remove the gown from the bag. In order to ensure that your cap, gown and tassel ready for graduation day, it is important to immediately remove the graduation gown from the bag as soon as you get home with your graduation outfit. Leaving the gown in the bag doesn’t allow the fabric to breathe and relax.
2. Place the gown on a hanger. After you take the graduation gown out of the bag, you should then place it on a hanger to let any wrinkles fall out. If after hanging up the gown to relax, pesky wrinkles still remain in the gown, here are three additional tips you can try:
   • Use a cool iron or steamer on the gown
   • Hang the gown in a bathroom and run the shower as the steam should help release wrinkles.
   • Make sure you don’t wash or dry clean the gown
3. Try on your cap and gown! It’s always a good idea to try on your cap and gown prior to the actual graduation day. Make sure that the gown fits you well and that the measurements are all accurate to avoid any unnecessary stress on graduation day.
4. Check out how the gown looks. After trying on your graduation gown, make sure that the sleeves fall below your elbow and above the palm of your hand. Also, the bottom of the gown should fall below your knee and above your ankle. When determining the measurements of the gown, it is important to remember that flats or heels won’t affect the hemline of the gown.
5. Complete the graduation outfit with the cap and tassel. Once you know that your graduation gown fits you correctly, it’s time to try on your cap. To do so, loop the tassel over the button on the top of the cap. Prior to putting on your cap, look inside to find the word “front.” When wearing the cap, it should be flat and level to the floor. Feel free to use bobby pins to properly secure the cap. On graduation day, remember that your tassel starts on the right side and is moved to the left side after you graduate.

After you finish these five steps, you will be ready to look your best on graduation day! There is only one thing left to remember: take time to enjoy all that you have accomplished and how proud everyone is of you.

Students of Grades 11 and 12 had a great opportunity to participate in the annual Skyline University College Young Talent Hunt. A total of six groups were admitted to the final in three different categories and from the six groups, 3 groups came back with trophies. The Grade 11 Girls were our Champions for the First Place winners for the Advertisement Design, Grade 11 Boys won 1st Runner- Up in the Category of General Business and the Grade 12 Girls, won 1st Runner- Up in the Category of Mobile Application.

Representatives from the Skyline University College came to school on January 31, 2022 to honor the winners and to provide them with the trophies and certificates.

We wish to congratulate them all for their hard work and success. We are proud of our students!

On Wednesday, February 2, our seniors participated in a Circle discussion about the tracking of COVID -19 cases. Seniors have enrolled in a course about COVID-19 Contact Tracing via SPEA academy. The course included 5 modules that covered several important ethical considerations around contact tracing, isolation, and quarantine. Afterwards, they visited the academy where they participated in a discussion around the procedures and strategies of tracking cases as well as the barriers to contact tracing efforts. Some of our students were interviewed by Sharjah TV.

We are very proud of our seniors!

The memories we make now are the memories we are going to remember most. This year has been like a ship; there has been the goods and there has been the bad, but when that ship reaches the shore there will be that bittersweet moment where you would want to get off that ship and start a new phase in your life or stay on it and keep enjoying the cruise, but we learned this a long time ago, we learned that time stops for no one, so as our cruise is coming to a stop, we would just like to look over all the memories we made this year. We started this year on a good note, we were all excited that we were going to be having our senior year in person.

One of the most memorable memories was Breast Cancer Awareness Week, where we all loved dressing up in pink and enjoyed designing our booths even though it was stressful, but we loved every single part of it. We also enjoyed organizing Character Day. We loved creating our mystery murder tent.

In Term 2, we enjoyed our mini trip to SPEA, where we participated in a circle discussion about tracing and tracking COVID-19 cases.

I believe the most memorable part of term 2 is when some of my friends and I attended AUSMUN. We learned how to think outside the box to find solutions for the roots of problems. Looking forward to more memories...

Emirati students should pass the EmSAT test with a minimum of 500 points in Mathematics and a minimum of 1100 points in English Language.

Non-Emirati students

Option 1: should pass the SAT1 test with a minimum of 450 points in Mathematics and a minimum of 500 points in pap-based TOEFL paper exam; 173 points in computer-based TOEFL exam; 61 points in internet-based TOEFL exam; 5.0 in Academic IELTS.

OR

Option 2: should pass the EmSAT tests with a minimum of 500 points in Mathematics and a minimum of 1100 points in English Language.

All choices should be based on the major to be chosen in university as well as university requirements.

-General Track: will be suitable if I am choosing non-scientific majors with no university requirements of AP exams or other scientific courses.

-Advanced Track: will be suitable when choosing scientific or general majors in universities where grades and subjects taken in school are not a major factor for entrance and acceptance.

-Elite Track: will be suitable when choosing scientific majors and mainly medicine in local or national universities where competitiveness and limited seats play a great role in acceptance. In this case, the more AP courses and exams taken, the more Scientific subjects studied, the better chances to guarantee a place in these universities.

All grade 12 UAE National students and children of UAE National mothers are requested to start the registration and application process for admissions to higher education institutions in the UAE or apply for a scholarship under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Education, for the first semester of AY 2022-2023.

A group of students in Grade 11 were inspired to create a short skit for their Islamic final exam project. The main idea of the skit was how to honor one's parents, an important Islamic values

Through this project, they learned created the opportunities for all to succeed, enabling all students to maximize their abilities, ambitions, and academic potential in everything they do.

This is true innovation and enragement!

Stations is a magazine that captures different angles of life including many diverse backgrounds in the world, from education to development to cooperation.

“Think outside the box”. Many have heard this saying before. This saying is usually used to stimulate creativity. What does it mean though? It is more than just sitting on the outside of a cardboard box while you think. To think outside of the box means that you don’t use commonly used ideas and it also is a challenge to think creative!

High School girls participated in "Think Outside The Box" competition where they had to complete a picture, that is not a star.

Every year in March, we celebrate women, their achievements, and their tremendous contributions to our society.

This year's celebration started with a special guest, Dr. Aisha Al Sayyar, the founder and director of SAIS schools. Dr. Aisha was invited to share her experience of her book, Life Story.. A Story of a Nation with Grade 11 and 12 girls as well as parents. Juniors and Seniors asked Dr. Aisha about her journey, after reading parts of her book.

In the afternoon, Grades 5-12 girls also celebrated Women's Day in their own creative ways. A whole range of activities and assemblies took place in the school gym designed to inspire where the girls dressed up as women they are inspired by and shared a brief biography of their journeys.

On May 30, 2021, the SAIS Alumni Committee released its first SAIS Alumni Newsletter, “WE ARE SAIS" | S'more Newsletters. WE ARE SAIS was the first step in our Alumni plan to bring all SAIS Alumni together.

In the last few months, we have been able to connect with former SAIS students who were proud to share their stories with us. We are in the process of planning our first alumni meeting soon! We hope to see many alumni and hear some more stories of SAIS!
