Character Trait for December is Mindfulness
This month’s mindset focus will be on Mindfulness. Please ask your child throughout the month how they may engage in mindfulness in their day to day lives.
From Mrs. Serazio
December can be a busy, busy, BUSY month for many families. As part of our Social Emotional Curriculum, this month our district is focusing on the character trait of Mindfulness. To embrace a "Mindful Month", please take a look at the activity sheet below as a family and take a moment to pause and reflect during this busy time. If you tried some of the activities or chose your own to try, please let me know at jserazio2@livoniapublicschools.org.
From the PBIS Team
PBIS
Thank you to all the families who returned the PBIS commitment sheet included with our pamphlet. Our staff and students are dedicated to being respectful, responsible, and safe as stated in our Positive Behavior Matrix. Students can earn “red tickets” for following the matrix expectations. Every Friday, teachers pull two red tickets, and the students can come to the lobby for a special prize!
Medications and Health Information - Please read!
If your child has a medical condition and/or requires medication at school, please download the forms your child needs for school, based on their health conditions (Life-Threatening Food and/or Insect Allergy, Allergy IHCP, Asthma, Diabetes, Seizure Disorder). New forms must be completed by you and your child’s physician each year (dated after the last day of school of the previous school year). Please ensure that the forms include both your signature and your child’s doctor’s signature. We cannot dispense any medication without these completed forms. Forms can be found on our school website under the parent tab as “Health Forms”.
Medications and forms can be brought to the school office anytime moving forward. Don't delay in sharing medical updates as you get updated information.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Serazio at jserazio2@livoniapublicschools.org.

Art with Ms. Salvia
We are keeping warm this winter in the art room with lots of festive winter projects! 2nd-4th graders practiced drawing cylinder shapes. We broke the cylinder down into two basic shapes: a circle and rectangle. Then, we had fun adding to our cylinders by making them into a lovely mug of hot cocoa! 3rd and 4th graders were encouraged to add lots of details with pencil first, then outline with sharpies. 2nd graders used oil pastels to begin adding color to their hot cocoa. K-1st graders talked about creating patterns by repeating lines. What kind of lines and patterns do you see on the colorful mittens we created? Young 5's artists learned about "warm" and "cool" colors. We colored our mittens with warm colors (red, yellow, orange) and painted the backgrounds for our mittens with cool colors. Cub Crew artists added to their snowman paintings from last week and had fun drawing details such as snow, a face, and hat/scarf!
See you next week in art!

PLTW with Mr. Morrow
Hello Scientist and Families,
Happy December! We have been hard at work in PLTW learning and creating. Winter is a wonderful time to get your creative juices flowing! In PLTW we have been embracing the "reuse" step of recycling.
Kindergarteners learned about reducing, reusing, and recycling this week. We learned to sort items into something that would be recyclable, reusable, and items that should be sent to the landfill.
1st Graders learned about a new way that light and shadows can be used. We used interesting items to make shadows on paper which were turned into drawings. Using shadows as a tools for drawing is a creative use of our learning.
2nd graders were focused on the Explain step of the design process. Our material science unit has concluded and these students created a comic strip that displayed a story where they would need to create a cooler using items around their house.
3rd graders are working to finalize their save the tiger compound machine. They'll be focused on the Explain step of the design process by creating a google slides presentation that displays their compound machine and shows each of the criteria involved.
4th graders are finishing their animal prosthetic model. They're working toward the Explain step as well. They will be focused on creating a digital presentation to show their learning.
LMC with Mr. Pinta
December is Computer Science month which includes the Hour of Code. This week students K-4 spent time coding using "Scratch" or "Block Coding." Second, third, and fourth graders worked from Code.org, first graders worked in Botlogic and Santa Tracker. Kindergarten and Young 5's tried coding using Santa Tracker. Kids really seemed into it. Coding takes a lot of problem solving and perseverance.
Next week we will continue our Digital Citizenship journey by focusing on ways to "be kind online."

Music with Ms. Grammatico
It has been a fantastic week in music! 3rd and 4th graders learned the song "Mincemeat Pie" with a stick routine. They also practiced writing out music notes based on rhythms that I spoke. This is a super hard skill but they all succeeded!
4th graders learned the note "G" on their recorders and practiced switching between all three notes "B, A, and G." They even got to play "Eye of the Tiger" and "Hot Cross Buns!"
3rd graders learned the song "Song of the Sleigh Bells" and played the drum, egg shakers, triangle, and jingle bells.
2nd graders continued their song "Tideo" and did a hand clapping movement then got to switch partners. They had a lot of fun!
Kindergarten-2nd graders played the drum, triangle, and jingle bells to "Trepak" from the Nutcracker. They also "skated" on paper plates around the classroom to the song "Skating."
Young 5's played with the parachute for the first time! We worked on listening, impulse control, go/stop, and up and down.
