Wildcat Weekly 4/28-5/2

Hi Wildcats! 🐾
Hi Wildcats!
We had a great week back after spring break and settled right back into our routines at school.
Our students in grades 3 through 5 will begin state testing this week. Join us in encouraging them to give their best effort and show what they have learned and accomplished this year. A positive mindset, a good night's sleep, and a healthy breakfast can make a big difference! Thank you for your support in helping our students feel confident and prepared.
To learn more about state testing, please review the Parent Guide to Understanding the Smarter Balance Summative Assessments. For more information, you can visit the Stating Smarter website. The Starting Smarter website includes information on student score reports, sample test questions, parent-teacher conferences, and other no-cost resources in English and Spanish.

Safety Patrol Applications Due Next Week
Fourth Grade Families: Safety Patrol Applications are now being accepted for next school year with training to occur in May and June. Safety Patrol members not only serve to ensure the safety of our community before and after school but also serve as representatives for Pomerado Elementary and should epitomize the character traits that we value in all our students. There are a limited number of spots, so the selection process will be stringent.
Here is the link to the full parent information letter and the online application. Students can also fill out the paper application passed out during the information meeting.
April is School Library Month!
"School Library Month" is the American Library Association's annual celebration of school libraries. It's a time we recognize the essential role that strong school libraries play in transforming learning. School libraries provide a welcoming space where students can explore new ideas, develop literacy skills, and foster a lifelong love of reading. We are so thankful for our own beautiful school library here at Pomerado!
Did you know that in PUSD, school libraries do not receive district funds to purchase new books? All of our book-buying dollars come from our bi-annual Book Fairs and occasionally, grants from the community. So while our wish list is ever growing, our new book purchases are often limited. If you would like to support our Pomerado school library this month, or anytime, please check out our Amazon wish list! We update the list quite frequently with titles we'd love to add to our collection to be enjoyed by our Wildcats and we appreciate donations! Please click here to access the list: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2M4DN8QBFZPVZ?ref_=wl_share
We know weekly class library visits are something many of our Wildcats look forward to! Thank you for supporting our school library and your child's reading adventures!
Spring Photos 📷
Friendly reminder! Spring portrait orders and returns were due on 4/22. If you have not already, please return your unpurchased photos to the school office as soon as possible. We ask that you make sure to pay for any photos you keep. THESE PHOTOS ARE NOT FREE. Remember, this program raises funds for our school with every purchase!
If you have any questions, please call Gerardy Photography at 760-747-2263 or email cs@gerardyphoto.com. Thank you!

Full-Day Universal TK in Poway Unified
PUSD is now offering a full-day Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program. TK is designed as the first year of a two-year kindergarten program and uses a play-based curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. EC Section 48000 [d]. Students who participate in TK will attend school daily for a full day, including a scheduled lunch and recess. Contact your neighborhood school for specific hours and details.
For the 2025-26 school year, TK enrollment is open to all eligible 4 year olds within the Poway Unified School District. ESS Interest Application
The Fall 2025 ESS Interest Application will be open from Tuesday, April 22 through Friday, June 6. All interested families may apply at any time during this initial application window. There is no advantage or disadvantage to applying earlier or later within this period, as all applications will be processed simultaneously.
Parents are encouraged to wait patiently until their child's enrollment has been completed by the school site and they have received access to their ParentVue account before attempting to use the ESS Application Management System.
Families who apply during the initial application window will be notified on June 13 whether their student has been offered a placement in the ESS program for the 2025–26 school year or has been placed on the waitlist.
If you have any questions about ESS enrollment, please email enrollment-ess@powayusd.com.
School Lunch Hero Day on May 2nd
Friday, May 2, 2025, is School Lunch Hero Day, an annual celebration of the important role that school nutrition professionals play in our schools.
