IPRs
Due to our use of an online grade book, we no longer send home physical Interim Progress Reports. Instead, at the halfway point of each quarter teachers are asked to check their grade books to make sure they are up to date and to add a comment for any student earning a C or below at the time of IPRs. Please check PowerSchool on Wednesday, November 20th for updated grades and any necessary teacher comments.
OHYES!
Hastings will be participating in the Ohio Healthy Youth Environments Survey, or OHYES! on Thursday, December 12th. An email was sent to all families on Friday, November 15th that included answers some basic questions about the survey’s purpose, content, and administration. Below is some of the information included in that email.
What is the purpose of the survey?: Our school district is committed to offering every student the best chance for success. That may include support services for students facing depression, anxiety, bullying, or other challenges. To meet students’ needs, we must first understand what challenges they face.
How does my family and community benefit?: OHYES! results will help guide communities in creating and improving youth health programs in Ohio. The results will be shared with everyone, including families, faculty and students, and the public. State-level and county-level results will be available to the public at http://ohyes.ohio.gov/Results. District and school results will only be available to Superintendents and Principals with secured access.
If you do NOT want your child to participate in this survey, you may opt-out on this FORM. A separate form is needed for each child you do NOT want to participate. If you are choosing to opt your child out, please complete the form by Friday, December 6th.
Service Hours
If your child is looking for service hours, here is information from our PTO:
Students can earn service hours by assisting with concessions at the basketball games. 8th graders and older do not need to be accompanied by an adult. If your child is a 6th or 7th grader, you will need to volunteer with them.

Parent/Guardian Presentation – “Supporting Your Child’s Mental Health”
Nationwide Children’s Hospital is offering a session on “Supporting Your Child’s Mental Health” on December 11th at 8:15 AM for parents/guardians to learn more about risk factors, warning signs and the steps to take if you have a concern about your child. We'll meet in person at the media center in Hastings Middle School.
This presentation is suitable for parents of all grade levels! It includes a brief segment on the Signs of Suicide program that the 8th graders will be participating in this year.
If you'd like to learn more about the SOS program, please click here.
If you can’t attend this event, don’t worry! The Nationwide Children’s Hospital team is finalizing caregiver education videos that will cover nearly all the information presented that day.
We’ll be sure to include that resource in the family flyer when it’s available.
Thank you!
