COUNSELING CORNER
Parents/Guardians:
The School District of Altoona is participating in a program called Direct Admit Wisconsin. Direct Admit Wisconsin is an initiative by the Universities of Wisconsin to proactively offer admission to qualifying high school students in between their junior and senior years of high school. Direct admission removes the traditional application process and instead uses data provided by the high school to admit students to universities. Current juniors have the option to opt into this program at this time. Current sophomores will get more information about Direct Admit in the future.
This is a voluntary program which parents need to opt in if you wish to have your student participate. Families that are opting into this program are giving the School District of Altoona permission to share the following information: Name, WISEid, Local Student District ID, contact information, legal sex, race/ethnicity, GPA and high school transcripts.
Then, based on a review of your student's 11th grade transcript (grade point average and math coursework), you and your student may receive an email in July indicating which University(ies) are providing them direct admission, as well as the next steps they are to take in order to learn more about enrolling within the Universities of Wisconsin. Participating in this program does not commit your student to attend the Universities of Wisconsin.
There are 10 universities in the Wisconsin system participating in the Direct Admit Wisconsin program for Fall 2025. They are UW-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Parkside, UW-Platteville, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Stout, UW-Superior and UW-Whitewater.
If you wish to participate, the class of 2025 must opt in by JUNE 3rd.
For further information on Direct Admit Wisconsin please see the link below. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Jay Mielke or Ms. Burich Holle in the Altoona High School Counseling Office.
