Marking Period 2
Welcome to Tiger Quarterly
Dear HMS Tiger Families:
We are excited to share the second edition of Tiger Quarterly--a newsletter created for students, by students! In this issue, you’ll find highlights from recent events, learn all about Advisory, and updates from Student Council and the Winter Athletics Program. We’ve worked hard to make this newsletter something you'd like to read.
Thank you for checking it out, and we hope you enjoy reading as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

Tiger Pride Assembly
On December 18th, HMS Tigers got to participate in their first Tiger Pride Assembly of the school year. The Grade Level Assemblies celebrated Marking Period 1 achievements and our HMS community. Many students were recognized for receiving Marking Period 1 Honors and High Honors. In addition to academic recognition, Ms. Falcone awarded a student from each grade with the Guidance Counselor Character award; congratulations to Maren DeCock, Zamiyah Serette, and Nina Sirota. Mr. Sorafine also recognized 8th grader Chance Rivera as winning the Principal's Award. Congratulations to all of our winners! During the Tiger Assembly, students competed against other Tiger Teams in Minute-to-Win-It Games such as Walrus, Stack Attack, A Bit Dicey, and Face the Cookie. Team members were challenged with a tricky task that had to be achieved in 60 seconds! All Tiger Teams did a fantastic job and truly showed their commitment to their teams.

During the week of December 16th, spelling bees were held in all ELA classes. The in-class spelling bees were quite competitive! Congratulations to those who moved onto the HMS School-Wide Spelling Bee on January 8th, 2025. The school-wide spelling bee lasted 21 rounds. We had 25 spellers competing and they all did an outstanding job. Congratulations to Logan Power who is bound for the Hudson County Spelling Bee on February 8th. Best of luck Logan! A special thank you to the HMS ELA teachers, Ms. Falcone, Dr. B. and of course all of our spellers!
HMS Visits to Buehler Challenge & Science Center
HMS students in all grades visited the Buehler Challenger & Science Center in Paramus, NJ from from January 21st-January 31st. Students participated in the Expedition Mars program. Students had the opportunity to fly in a space mission beyond their wildest dreams in the challenger simulator. Students did a fantastic job of collaborating with one another for a successful mission!
