Upton Sinclair was an author of magazine and newspaper articles before he began to write novels. His most famous book is The Jungle, which exposed the horrifying facts of the meat packing industry, The Jungle led to the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act (1906) and the Meat Inspection Act (1906).
How does he fit into Environmental Science?
Chapter 17 Section 2 discusses Environmental Health Hazards and Human Health. Upton Sinclair made the unsanitary practices of food production known to the public. The laws and regulations that ensued as a result of the publication of The Jungle made the food industry safer for all citizens.
