FCMS Express
Week of March 10, 2025
From Mr. Liggett
FCMS Family,
Once again the weather changes daily. That being said, our daily learning may adjust as well.
Some classes may be using the outside as their learning environment whether it is on campus
or offsite with some type of field trip. Please help guide your child with wearing clothing that
is appropriate for the weather outside. With only a couple of weeks away from spring break,
it may sometimes feel overwhelming with all the expectations of school tied with the warmer
weather and wanting to get outside when students get home. Helping your child adjust to
their schedules in hopes of getting in all their activities can be a challenging task. Please do
not hesitate to contact our teachers or main office if you have a question or concern.
Communication is very important when it comes to student’s success. The activities for the
remaining days in March are as follows:

From 6th Grade
Mrs. Ariens
Congratulations to the following 6th graders for receiving a shout-out from classmates this week:
Jace Moore (for kindness and helpfulness)
Reanna Perkins (for kindness and positivity)
Ember Lyons (for respect)
Also, congratulations to Olivia Ralph for receiving Mrs. Ariens' "ELA Rockstar of the Week". Olivia is one of the kindest, most respectful students we have here at FCMS. The world needs more people like Olivia!
6th grade students competed in "Press Your Luck" to review important reading skills. Students answered questions in teams and sent a student to shoot a ball into a basket. Everyone works together and everyone gets a turn to shoot. The team with the most points wins! Plot twist: Students won't know the point values of the baskets until the game is over!
Mr. Sherwood: Rubber Band Cars
The 6th graders engineered cars propelled by rubber bands. The cars were made out of cardboard, popsicle sticks, skewers, and straws.
They were simply innovative and AMAZING!
Quarter Incentive
6th graders who earned this quarter's incentive enjoyed a trip to the YMCA.
From Mr. Laughlin
Mr. Laughlin’s PE classes have begun Boaters Education with our local DNR officers. This program will be finishing up this week. Back in the gym students have begun practicing on their outdoor sports as warmer weather approaches. Below are class tournament winners!
From 8th Grade Language Arts
Mrs. Noah and Mrs. Hoog's 8th graders just finished reading Yellow Star, a biography about one of the twelve children who survived the Lodz ghetto during the Nazi occupation of Poland during WWII. Last semester their students read I Have Lived a Thousand Years, an autobiography about a girl who grew up in Slovakia during the same time period. She was taken to Auschwitz and survived Hitler's persecution of the Jews. Both books are true stories that teach our students the value of human life, treating others with kindness and respect, and perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds.
Beat Cancer in 4 Quarters
FCMS always helps raise money for the high school's Beat Cancer in Four Quarters Game, and this year FCMS raised a grand total of $1,387.66. We appreciate the efforts made by both our teachers and students to participate and raise money for such a great cause. Mrs. Arien's homeroom raised the most money this year with $281.00 in their class alone. Monday they celebrated with a donut party!!
🎭Upcoming🎭
The Franklin County Arts Council is excited about bringing a theatrical opportunity to all 6th, 7th, & 8th graders in Franklin County schools. The play is being performed by the Lexington Children’s Theatre, and it will be presented on March 11 in the Lew Wallace Auditorium of Franklin County High School.
This show is being funded free of charge for all students by Tri Kappa Sorority and the Anne Thackery Children’s Endowment for the Arts. The Franklin County Arts Council is the coordinating sponsor for this enriching experience.
