Welcome Back Message
Welcome Back Pumas!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Spring Break spending time with family and friends. Some of you were able go on vacation somewhere exciting, and some of you just took some needed time to relax. Spring Break is always a time to recharge and help us get ready for the remainder of the school year. We have a couple of busy months to end to the school year, so I hope you are all rested.
All 11th graders will continue CAASPP testing in their Science classes this week starting Tuesday (regular weekly bell schedule). The following week, 11th graders will be testing in Math classes and all grades (9-12) will be following a rolling block schedule. You can refer to the CAASPP newsletter and info below.
Have a great first day back! Go Pumas!

CAASPP Testing Schedule & Info
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) system will assess all 11th grade students in English Language Arts, Math and Science. Below is the CAASPP schedule for our first two weeks back from break. 11th graders will test in Science this week and in Math next week.
CAASPP Testing Newsletter and Information:
In addition to being a measure of the performance of CHS, the CAASPP:
Measures how well students have mastered the skills and content presented in our classrooms
Gauges students’ college and career readiness
Is an important factor affecting both entrance to universities and placement in courses
May exempt students from taking support level English or math courses at California universities through the EAP (Early Assessment Program) system
See below for more reasons of why CAASPP matters
Students will need to bring their charged school issued chromebook and earbuds (if they have them) each day of testing.
Please encourage your student to put forth their best effort and to get solid rest, to eat a good breakfast and to arrive at school on time on test days. We are confident our Pumas will do their best on the test.
TVUSD Solar Eclipse Message
As we return from Spring Break, a solar eclipse is scheduled for April 8th. As this rare phenomenon unfolds, we want to ensure the safety and well-being of all students, staff, and families in our community. It is imperative to remember that directly observing the sun during an eclipse can cause serious eye damage. Therefore, we urge everyone to take appropriate safety precautions, such as using certified solar viewing glasses or creating pinhole projectors to indirectly view the eclipse.
Southern California is not in the direct path of a complete solar eclipse, but we will experience a partial eclipse between 10:05 am, reaching maximum coverage at 11:12 am. Then it will gradually move away from the sun until 12:24pm (ending the eclipse). The total duration will take 2 hours and 19 minutes.
Student safety is our top priority. Some teachers may be preparing engaging lessons and activities to explore the science behind solar eclipses, and the importance of protecting our eyes during such events. We encourage parents and guardians to engage with their children in discussions about the eclipse, safety precautions, and its scientific implications.
Here are some safety tips:
Do not look directly at the eclipse unless you have eclipse glasses that meet ISO 12312-2:2015 standards.
Use proper solar filters on cameras and binoculars. Avoid using homemade filters or any other substitute for eclipse glasses.
If you do not have eclipse glasses, consider using indirect viewing methods to safely observe the eclipse.
In the spirit of learning and safety, let's take the necessary precautions to ensure a memorable and protected experience for all. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
