A Message from the Principal
Dear Sheridan Families,
It was wonderful to see so many Sheridan parents at the Spirit Home and Garden Tour yesterday. Amy and Dan Fields’ historic home absolutely sparkled! We are grateful for all who volunteered to staff the rooms and share the stories of filmmaker John Hughes’ former residence. Ticket sales from the Home and Garden Tour fund the grants that benefit every Sheridan student. Our wonderful playgrounds, Visiting Author and Visiting Scientist programs, fine arts assemblies, early childhood gross motor equipment, plus many curricular items are all funded through grants from the Spirit of 67. There is still time to buy raffle tickets and bid in the live auction through Sunday, 9/29 if you’d like to contribute. Thank you in advance for supporting this amazing organization!
Today’s Shark Family event highlighted our upcoming Shark Family Domino Challenge. If you are new to our Sheridan community, this dynamic event celebrates the theme of “teamwork.” Between now and October 10, please send in full, unopened cereal boxes which will function as the “dominoes”. On Friday, October 11, our Shark families will work together to form a seamless chain of boxes and then the magic will happen! We’ll be sure to post a video of the action as the boxes fall – it is always very exciting! After the event, APT will donate the cereal boxes to various food pantries to share with those in need. Check out the flier for details.
Shark House Shirts and Growing Children – Just a gentle reminder that each student is given ONE Shark House shirt for their time at Sheridan. That means it is intentionally BIG in kindergarten with the aim to grow into it over the students’ years as a Shark. Many students knot up the excess fabric with a hair tie until they grow into their shirt. We’ve received several requests to replace lost shirts. Though we cannot do this with our limited stock, we are exploring the idea of a group sale where parents can order a replacement shirt directly. Please fill out the form below by Friday, October 4th if you are interested in purchasing a new Shark House shirt for your child. We will need to meet an order quantity threshold to move forward. From the Library: Another successful fall book fair is in books! Thank you to all of the volunteers for supporting our students while they made a selection. Thank you also to Lake Forest Book Store for helping us put on this event.
This week we also discussed the importance of being responsible digital citizens, highlighting values such as critical thinking, conscientious communication, and empathy in our online interactions. As a community, we value technology as a powerful tool for learning, but we also understand that it can present many challenges. By encouraging our students to be thoughtful and careful with their devices and online, we can help them navigate these challenges and become positive role models in our digital world. Please continue the conversation at home about how to be positive e-citizens, and be sure to read the attached document outlining guidelines. At your earliest convenience, please also complete the embedded Google Form, also available here. Thank you for your support!
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Susan
