A Note From the Activities Director
April 2024: Hello Rough Riders! My name is Steve Moore and I have the honor and privilege of being the Activities Director at Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School. Roosevelt High School is an amazing place to grow and develop as a young person. Extra-curricular activities greatly enhance the educational experience for students, and at Roosevelt we have many, many opportunities for students to get involved in such activities. The purpose of this newsletter is to inform the Roosevelt School Community of a few of the happenings and opportunities that exist here at Roosevelt High School. If you or someone you know would like to be involved in an extra-curricular opportunity at Roosevelt, please contact us in the Roosevelt Activities Office. We would love to help. Thank you. GO RIDERS!!!!

Air Force JROTC
AFJROTC closed out a very busy month of March! We volunteered at the Banquet West on Monday March 4th and fed approximately 130 patrons! It is wonderful to see our students give back to the community. We conducted three color guards over the course of the Girls/Boys State Basketball Tournament(s). That was so much fun to watch and really was a great experience for our cadets! We had our FIRST fundraiser! We packed pallets for a local distribution company. Spent 4 hours with just 10 of us and we managed to pack approximately 10,000lbs of product! We had some sore hands and backs the next day!
We also have a jam-packed April…here are just a few things on the calendar parents need to be aware of:
April 17th we will have an instructor from the ROTC detachment at SDSU coming to brief the AFJROTC students on their program. This should be fun as a former JROTC cadet who is currently at SDSU in the ROTC program is going to do her best to attend!
April 19th, we have a field trip to the University of North Dakota. This is in conjunction with CTE’s Aviation class. This will be a very long day…leaving VERY early from the CTE Academy and returning late to the CTE Academy! After we depart UND we will be headed to the Fargo Air Museum. Look for a consent form to come home after the first week of April to sign and return.
April 22nd we will have an Air Liaison Officer come and talk to the kids during 6th and 7th period about how to apply to the Air Force Academy. If any parent wants to hear this, please come to the 7th period brief which starts at approximately 2:20. This will ensure that if you have questions, you can stay after and speak with him. Please make sure if you come to the school, you sign in at the front and show your driver’s license.
April 25th we will have our annual Pass-In-Review. This year it will be held at Lincoln High School. The students will be dismissed right after lunch, and we will head over for a short practice before it officially starts. This is open to parents/guardians/family/friends! Please come out and watch some of the things your child has been learning this year!
If your student is interested in joining AFJROTC class at RHS please contact your student’s counselor or one of the instructors for more information. Our emails are: katie.neeley@k12.sd.us and eric.a.johnson@k12.sd.us.
