"Just because it is difficult, doesn't mean it is not your destiny" -Lance Thonvold
It was so good to see how much impact Lance had when he presented to our student body. Students shared with me that they felt like he was talking to them and were inspired. Lance shared the quote above, and it resonated in me as I thought about our students. High school can be difficult for a multitude of reasons. Our hope at CEC is to help ease the difficulties and let our students know that we are here beside them, supporting them through their journey.

Did you know?
Starting next year, Chandler Early College will receive a letter grade by Arizona Board of Education. Students will still earn their degree from their home school, but we will be looked at separately. The system measures year to year student academic growth, proficiency on English language arts, math and science, the proficiency and academic growth of English language learners, indicators that high school students are ready to succeed in a career or higher education and high school graduation rates.
What are the components of a letter grade?
A-F Letter Grades use state assessment results, English learner assessment results, attendance, special education metrics, graduation rates and progress towards graduation, and graduating seniors’ completion of activities that help prepare for college and career. These data points are used to measure students’ performance and growth on the state assessment, English learner’s proficiency and growth towards proficiency in English, and readiness for students’ next steps to college and careers. For more detailed information on the A-F Letter Grades, please use the A-F Letter Grade Technical Manuals on the Arizona Department of Education website here: https://www.azed.gov/accountability-research/resources under “Technical Manuals & Codebooks”.
Although we are an alternative program, we are not considered an alternative high school. We will be graded like all of our traditional high schools. The great news is if we were to have received a letter grade last year we would have been a B. We have not received results for where we would fall this year, but we are projected it would be a B again. Our students do amazing things here and we are so proud of them!
We Need Your Help!
Attendance is extremely important for students to be successful. At this point in the school year 77% of our students have moderate to extreme attendance issues. Please help us improve our daily attendance rate.
Diversity Month
April is Diversity Month and we want to showcase CEC families. If you are interested in sharing or participating in cultural events at CEC, we would love to hear from you. This month we will be creating a list of ideas and asking students to vote on what they would like to happen at CEC.
Potluck, art project, movie, music, share your hobby, map of where your family is from, cultural bulletin board, trivia, games, question of the day, etc.

Scholarship Opportunities for Seniors
Parents of Seniors – CEF Scholarship Applications Open January 6!
The Chandler Education Foundation (CEF) offers more than 200 scholarship awards for CUSD graduating seniors.
The CEF scholarship Application portal will open Monday, January 6, and the deadline to submit is Monday, March 24. This includes the application form, essays, and all required documents for the IMPACT, Donor, and Foundation scholarships.
Winter break is a great time for students to get ahead! If they haven’t already, encourage your student to:
Gather references (contact info and permission) from teachers, coaches, or mentors.
Create a list of activities, awards, and leadership roles in school or the community.
Outline their future goals for college or career and plans to achieve them.
Include any special considerations evaluators should know.
Taking time over the break, away from classes and homework, can make their application stronger and improve their chances of earning a financial award.
Be sure to follow the Chandler Education Foundation on Facebook and Instagram for updates and reminders.

IMPACT Chandler Program Updates for Parents
The IMPACT Chandler program, facilitated by the Chandler Education Foundation (CEF), celebrates service leadership and academic excellence across CUSD high schools. This year, CEF made changes to expand access, streamline hour tracking, and enhance program quality.
These updates have been communicated to students, but to clarify a few key points for parents:
Hours Approval
Over 6,000 students participate in this program, and CEF has a small team processing submissions. Please allow time for approvals.
Seniors’ hours are prioritized to ensure they meet the IMPACT criteria deadline (March 24).
If a submission is missing details, students will be asked to provide more information. If students do not update within 30 days, it will be declined but can be resubmitted.
Scholarship Information
Graduating with IMPACT honors does not guarantee a scholarship.
To be considered for the IMPACT scholarship, seniors must apply by March 24.
The CEF scholarship application – for all scholarship opportunities - is now open for CUSD seniors. Some scholarships require extra materials (essays, references, etc.), so early submission is highly recommended.
The number of scholarships available each year depends on funds raised through the Winner’s Choice Car or Cash Raffle fundraiser.
Participation
Any CUSD high school student can register to participate in the IMPACT Chandler program at any time through Infinite Campus. Service hours, however, can only be submitted from the date of program registration forward. Service hours completed prior to registration in the program are not eligible.
For details on IMPACT eligibility and access to the scholarship application form, visit the IMPACT Chandler webpage.
Thank you for supporting your student’s service journey!

Tardy to Class
- Students are expected to be seated in their classrooms ready to begin class work at the start of each period.
