A Note From Mr. Coleman
Dear Lincoln Parents and Guardians,
As stated in a communication last week, while Mrs. Willfinger is out on FMLA and I will be the acting principal of Lincoln Elementary School. The district has employed two retired administrators who will be job sharing the role of interim assistant principal. Ms. Cathy Fisher and Ms. Kris Walsh will join the Lincoln team on Sept. 28th.
Cathy Fisher is a former middle school special education teacher, dean of students, and district administrator. In her role as Director of Teaching and Learning at Maercker School District 60, she provided leadership to all aspects of the pre-kindergarten through eighth grade instructional program. She was responsible for the design and implementation of professional development for all staff. Cathy believes strongly in continuous improvement and enjoys leading systems change. Cathy views herself as a student advocate and strives to provide the leadership necessary for schools to meet the needs of all learners.
Kris Walsh is a former teacher, district coordinator and elementary school principal. She worked in Lombard School District 44 where she served as the district math and science coordinator and then principal of Butterfield Elementary School. Additionally, Kris spent several years providing professional development for teachers and parent education in the area of mathematics. Since her retirement in 2019, Kris has fulfilled interim roles at Lake Louise, Kimball Hill and Virginia Lake, and looks forward to joining the team at Lincoln Elementary School.

Lincoln Construction Update:
Now that our construction project is officially underway, you may have noticed the fencing that has been added around our school building and out into Burke Field. Please remember that we strongly discourage student drop off from the Prince of Peace parking lot due to a lack of staff supervision. With the addition of the construction fences in Burke Field, students will need to use the sidewalks along Cunningham and Ridgewood to avoid worksite construction and vehicles.
We kindly ask that you please either use our car loop for a "kiss and drop" or parking on Cunningham or Farmgate to park and walk to the front of the building for drop off or pick up.
The bike racks have been moved by the Lincoln School sign at the front of the building and are marked on the image below as red circles/ovals. If your child rides a bike to school, please remind them that bikes must be walked to our crossing guards at the corners of Farmgate and Ridgewood or Cunningham and Ridgewood. Students are only allowed to cross Ridgewood at our crossing guard locations. We have see an increase in students trying to ride their bikes on Ridgewood during dismissal and this is extremely dangerous with bus traffic during dismissal. Thank you for your help in talking with your children about bike safety at Lincoln.
A Note From The Nurse: Mrs. Klekovic
On occasion, students will come to the school nurse in need of a change of clothes. Lincoln relies heavily on donations of new or gently used clothing items for students who might need to change for any reason. If you have items that you would like to donate, please send shirts and pants to the school nurse. (Items that are donated must be new or gently used and washed.)

Our Special area teachers (PE, Music, Art, and Library) would like to keep you "in the know" this school year. They have put together this Specials Spotlight that will stay in this newsletter moving forward. Be sure to check it each time to see what new and exciting things your students are up to during their specials time!
News For You
Picture Day
Order forms have been sent home via student backpack. Please watch your email for a message that will be sent from HR Imaging. This email will contain a link and code that you will need to use for ordering.
Friday Ice Cream Day
In order to purchase ice cream, students either need to have a positive balance in their meal account, or they need to bring $1 to school labeled for ice cream with their first and last name. All money will be deposited in their meal account at the start of the school day.

Please remember to call our attendance line 847-963-5701 any time your student will be absent from school. This line is open 24 hours/day and checked daily for attendance. If you leave a message, please remember to state your child's first and last name as well as the reason they will be out. Thank you!

Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (BPAC)
Our next Spanish BPAC event is titled "Rompiendo barreras" (Breaking Barriers), and is intended for our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Spanish speaking students across D15 and their parents/caregivers. This event will focus on COLLEGE and post high school career opportunities! Our BPAC team aspires to ensure our students and their families know the power of college and post high school education and that there is a pathway to these opportunities that is attainable for all! We have programming planned for students and their caregivers that includes college counselors, a keynote presentation from Dr. Jose Enriquez (Founder of Latinos in Action), and breakout sessions with Latino leaders from a variety of professions. Please help us to spread the word about this motivational and inspiring event!
