Jim Falls Elementary
May 2024
Dear Jim Falls Families,
April was a whirlwind of activity. The damp weather characteristic of April turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as it helped keep the students focused on academics. We wrapped up our Forward Testing, students learned how to be responsible and prepared babysitters, savored an exceptional 5th grade musical performance, and select grades engaged in enriching STEM activities facilitated by the support of CESA 10.
Looking ahead to May, we are gearing up for many exciting events. Students will undergo their final round of Fastbridge testing, and as a staff, we're eager to witness the progress made since the beginning of the academic year. Additionally, there are assemblies and field trips planned for many of our students. Please ensure to check your child's folder nightly for important notes pertaining to these field trips. Junior Achievement is either concluding for some students or commencing within the next few weeks.
Lastly, May 29 marks the final day of school for students, with a full day of school scheduled. During our "Moving on Up Day" on May 29, students will have the opportunity to meet their teacher for the upcoming year. Additionally, we'll bid farewell to our 5th grade class with a brief 5th Grade Promotion presentation at 1:00 PM. All parents/guardians of 5th grade students are invited to attend. Children may also depart with their parents following the conclusion of the program. More details about the promotion presentation will be shared by your child's teacher closer to the event date.
As always, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and partnership in your child's education.
Proud to be a Jim Falls Soaring Eagle,
Mrs. Janet Goodman

There has been a change in the last day of school for elementary students. The new last day will be on May 29, 2024, instead of the previously scheduled May 30, 2024. Please note that this change is only for our K-5 students. 4K, MS, and HS students will still have school on May 30th.
This adjustment is necessary to provide teachers with dedicated time to begin training as mandated by the state under Act 20 for all public schools. Act 20 initiates a statewide adherence to science-based early literacy instruction to address low reading proficiency across the state.
Your partnership and support in allowing this time for our educators to focus on enhancing their skills in the area of literacy are highly appreciated. We know that the benefits of this training will contribute positively to the learning experience of our students.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.

Reminders
Notes from the Office
If your child is going to be absent or tardy for any reason, please call the office by 8:00 am Instructional time starts at 7:43 am. Any student who arrives after 7:43 am is considered tardy.
If you need to change your child's transportation for the end of the day, please send a note to your child's teacher. Phone calls are discouraged but if a change needs to be called in, PLEASE call the office by 1:30 pm to insure that the message gets delivered to the classroom.
If you need to pick your child up early, please check in at the office. Parents will need to sign their child(ren) out and then we will call your child down to the office. Students will not be waiting in the office so make sure to give yourself enough time prior to appointments.
BUS TRANSPORTATION CHANGES
All student rerouting requests will originate at Chippewa Yellow Bus Company. Student rerouting requests require a 24 hour notice and approval by the bus company. Medical Absences
Food Service Payments and Menus
Payments can be made on the Infinite Campus portal under the food service tab. The free and reduced lunch application is also located on your Infinite Campus parent portal by selecting "more" then "meal benefits". Here is a list of the CFAUSD Meal Prices.
Classroom Treats
The health office requests that any treats brought in to school for birthdays, parties, or any other special occasions should be store bought with a clear nutrition label.
There are certain students and staff members with health conditions that may require certain dietary accommodations and it's important that they are able to review a food's nutrition label before choosing to omit or consume certain foods.
Please also be mindful about choosing treats that may contain tree nuts and/or peanuts for your student's classroom. There may be other students in your child's classroom who may have a severe nut allergy. If you are wondering whether your child is in a nut free classroom, please inquire with your student's classroom teacher or the school's health office.
HIGH SCHOOL GAME ATTENDANCE RULE
The Chippewa Falls High School would like to remind you of our game attendance rule.
In order to enter any high school game/event, all middle school and elementary students must be accompanied by an adult chaperone.
Thank you for helping all of our fans stay safe at our home sporting events!
Chiropractic Care at school
Wrapping up the school year can cause extra stress. Neck pain, muscle tightness, headaches and fatigue are all symptoms of stress, even in children. Chiropractic adjustments help the spine release the tension held in muscles, which relaxes the body, reducing stress.
Contact us at onsitechiroinfo@gmail.com if you’d like us to help your child wrap up the school year with chiropractic care.
Did you know that we offer care to students during the summer months as well? Our team of doctors have specific hours over the summer to continue care for all our school chiropractic students. Let us know if you have any questions by emailing or call 715-382-6864.
News from Nurse Caitlin

May 29th, 2024. Any extra medication will need to be picked up on or before the last day of school by a parent or it will be disposed of.
If your child has an emergency medication at school (ex. EpiPen, Diazepam), arrangements will need to be made for pick up. Reminders to get them will be sent home before the end of the year. Inhalers will be sent home in your child’s backpack if they are not picked up before the last day of school.
If your child has any medication at school that is not taken on a regular basis, (ex. Tylenol, Ibuprofen, cough drops, cough syrup), please make arrangements to pick up this medication before the end of the school year. Any medication left in the health office at the end of the last day of school will be disposed of.

Kindergarten Registration
The public elementary schools in Chippewa Falls are beginning to plan for kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year.
Students who presently attend one of the Chippewa Falls School District’s 4-year-old Kindergarten programs do not need to re-enroll. Students are automatically enrolled in Kindergarten. Mentor Chippewa is a local non-profit, founded right here in Chippewa Falls, 35 years ago! We work closely with local school systems to bring our school-based mentoring programs to their students and offer the opportunity for adults to connect with youth in a safe setting.
We value all kids, right where they are, while recognizing that school can be tough, and mentors can help tough days go better! Everyone can benefit from having a caring adult in their lives to help them realize that when days go better, years go better.
If your student could benefit from a mentoring relationship, please contact us and we will make the connection between the student, the school, and one of our amazing volunteer mentors.
