A Message from the Principal- Halloween Information!
Dear Harvey Families,
I cannot believe Halloween week is already here! Time really is flying over here at the Eagle House! Here are a few things for you to know about our day at school on Halloween:
- Students have a half day of school- dismissal is at 12:04pm
- Students will begin the parade at 11:00 indoors through classrooms, once students complete their tour through the building, they will head outside weather pending. Adults will only be permitted in the building for the parade if we have rain
- We are hopeful that the weather will stay nice, and we can do our parade outside- if that is the case adults can line up in front of the building on the sidewalk/parking lot- and on the sides of the building
- Should Michigan decide to shower us with rain on Halloween, we will be bringing all adults into the gym for the parade
- If you are volunteering in your student's classroom you will need to have your background check completed and on file- we will let all adults in the building know when it is time to head outside or in the gym for the parade
- Any adults entering the building will need to have their ID available and will be asked to sign in
- We encourage one adult to go to each classroom when signing out your student early. If you have more than one adult present and have multiple students, you can split up and go sign out your students
- Teachers will have sign-out sheets in their classrooms and adults will check out with the teacher
Thank you for your continued partnership & we look forward to a Happy and Safe Halloween!
Proud Principal,
Ms. Masi
Fall Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences Dates:
- Wednesday, November 6th (In Person or Virtual) 5:00-8:00pm
- Thursday, November 7 (In Person or Virtual) 12:45-3:45pm & 4:30-7:30pm
It may be hard to believe, but we are near the end of our first card marking period. Since the start of school, we have worked together to celebrate real successes of the connections being made between teachers and our students. It is now our opportunity to schedule Parent-Teacher Conferences. Conferences are an important part of our partnership to make sure students are meeting our shared expectations. This year, we will be offering BOTH virtual (online) and in-person conference sessions.
We will again be using a web-based process this year to schedule and virtually meet with your child’s teachers about their progress. The system we are using is called School Soft Conference Manager and it will allow you to check our teachers’ conference schedules and book an appointment on-line.
The first time you use the Conference Manager you will be required to register and create a parent account. (If you already have an account from previous years, you can skip this step). Setup only takes a minute or two. You will continue to use this same account for the duration of the time you have children in the school, so please record your password where you can reference it later.

Halloween at Harvey
Let's Chat Halloween Costumes:
Halloween is a time of year where some of our students get super excited about picking out their Halloween costumes, and as parents/guardians we know that sometimes those "popular" costumes are hard to find the longer we wait to go shopping (I swear I start seeing Halloween costumes in stores before it is even considered "fall"). With that being said I thought it may be helpful for you to have an idea of what those "school appropriate" costumes are here at Jack Harvey. Keep in mind, or as I like to put things in perspective with my older students.... we have students as young as 4-5 years old and while some costumes are "age appropriate for them", they may not be appropriate for the all school parade. After reading the guidelines below if you have any questions regarding suitability, please contact the office or your student's teacher.
- Students should refrain from violent characterization and may not use any fake weapons, fake blood, or any references to victims or perpetrators of violence for their costume choice at school. Violent characterization is unacceptable for school parades and where younger students might be frightened. If deemed inappropriate by school personnel, students will be asked to remove the costume and/or wash off makeup.
- Book, cartoon, folk heroes, historical figures, and period costumes are all good ideas to consider when thinking of the perfect costume.
- Since Halloween is a half day of school (12:04 dismissal), students will be allowed to wear costumes to school. Check to be sure that your child can walk freely, and that the costume will be comfortable enough for the classroom setting. Masks should be left at home. Plan to have your child bring any costume props (wigs and other add-ons) to school in a bag or backpack.
HALLOWEEN OUTLINE
We have a half-day on Halloween. We have dismissal at 12:04. Please work with your child's teacher on if there are any volunteering opportunities for that day. Remember, you must have a background check on file to volunteer. All classroom volunteers must sign into the office so we are notified that you are slated to work in a classroom. We are hoping to have an outdoor parade if the weather cooperates. If it is forecasted to rain, we will parade indoors similar to last school year where families will be seated in the gym. We expect the parade to begin at 11:00am. Families may sign out with their teacher to take their children home after the parade.
**We will make an announcement for family members who have signed up to volunteer in their student's classroom to make their way to the gym or outside for the parade.
Finally, we are aware that many of our families will want to view our parade. If the parking lot is full, you are more than welcome to park in the sub in the back or next to our school.
