West End Weekly Update - Week of September 16th, 2024
Hispanic Heritage Month
As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15), we honor the rich histories, vibrant cultures, and significant contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. This is a special time for all of us to reflect on the diversity that strengthens our community and to appreciate the traditions, stories, and values that have shaped our shared history!
Our annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration will be held on the evening of October 10th. Please be on the lookout for more information about our upcoming event!

Forms were also sent home with students this week.
Please return completed forms to the main office no later than September 30th, 2024.

West End Clubs - Sign Ups
Our goal is for West End Elementary School students to engage in extra curricular activities outside of the regular school day.
Student Sign-Up links will be sent to families via text notification and email on Monday at 8:30 am. Club sign ups will close on September 20th. Clubs will begin the week of October 1st.
If your child plans to participate in any of the music programs, please select a club that does not conflict with the music rehearsal schedule. Music programs will distribute additional information.
BAND - Grade 4 - At the elementary school level students who participate in band lessons receive small group lessons during the school day. Your child will be assigned to a specific day of the week for band lessons, one time per week, and the actual time of the lesson is rotated throughout a cycle so that your child will not miss the same subject more than once every 6 or 7 weeks. Students who take band lessons also participate in a mandatory weekly meeting before school hours. Students use this time to learn the music that they will perform at various concerts through the school year. I look forward to a great year of music.

I-Ready Testing
Over the coming weeks, students will complete their Fall I-ready Assessment.
The I-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions based on student responses. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. I-Ready is an online program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform instruction.
To help prepare your child for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to:
- Get a good night’s sleep and eat a full breakfast
- Try their best on each question and try not to rush.
- For Math questions, use paper and pencil to show work.
You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.
As always, thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning!
