FUEL 5th Grade Monthly Update

Hello 5th Grade Families!

We are trying something new this year! I will share out a monthly flyer specifically for 5th grade families that will be focused on 5th grade events and to-dos. This final year of elementary school can often be a whirlwind of events and activities - our goal is to send one of these informational newsletters out each month with your need-to-knows!

Note: this does NOT take the place of the FUEL weekly newsletter. Your school-wide events, dates, etc. will still all only be in that newsletter. The regular newsletter will also contain 5th grade events as well, but this will hopefully help to streamline the information for you in this final semester.

Here we go! Please check out the first newsletter from our FMS team to help aid in the 5th-to-6th grade transition and to answer some of your burning questions! You will find details in this box each month and important links for scheduling (late February, early March) and field trip information (late May).

5th Grade FMS Transition Dates

• Monday, February 10th - Student Information Sessions with Mr. Bruner/Mrs. Castle throughout school day (students will receive scheduling forms TODAY) - Slides from Meeting

• Thursday, February 13th - FMS Parent Scheduling Information Night, 6-7:00 pm @ FUEL Cafeteria

• Tuesday, February 25th - FMS Virtual Parent Information Night, 6 pm via Google Meet (same information as Thursday, 2/13 in-person session)

• Thursday, February 27th - FMS Scheduling Forms due to Homeroom Teachers

• Monday, March 3rd - FMS Scheduling Day @ FUEL (during school day)

• Thursday March 13 - FMS Information Meeting w/ Mr. Bruner & FMS Team, 6 pm @ FHS Auditorium

Upcoming 5th Grade Dates

5th Grade Spelling Bee 2025

Ferndale Upper is enrolled once again in the Scripps Spelling Bee for winter 2025! Classroom Spelling Bee lists went out before break - see the dates below & contact your student's ELA teacher if you have any questions!

• Classroom winners will go on to compete in a FUEL bee on Tuesday, February 11th .

• The winner of the FUEL bee will go on to compete at the Oakland Schools Scripps Regional Spelling Bee at Oakland University on Saturday, March 1st.

5th Grade Field Trip to Motor City Cruise - Wed. February 12th

The 5th graders will be heading to the Motor City Cruise Basketball Game on Wednesday, February 12th from 9:45-1 pm for their STEAM Day! Check out the important information below regarding this trip:

• Students can not bring backpacks or lunches (we will eat lunch after returning at 1:15)
• Concessions stands are available if students would like to purchase snacks
• Students will enjoy a professional basketball game and science/STEM presentations in the arena

End-of-Year Celebration Dates

• Thursday, June 5th - 5th Grade Celebration, 2 pm @ FUEL Playground
• Friday, June 6th - 5th Grade Hallway Clap-out, 11:40 am
