We appreciate you!

FREE Digital Books, Magazines, and Audiobooks for the WHOLE FAMILY!
Did you know that we are members of Overdrive, which means our families have access to thousands of books that can be read on any digital device, including audiobooks and magazines--students and parents?! Here's all you have to do:
- Install the Sora app from the Apple or Google store, or go to soraapp.com;
- Use our setup code, morenetmo;
- Borrow a book and start reading or listening!
From the Shelf, you can see your books that you have borrowed or that are on hold, get to your notes and highlights, and more.
What a great resource for a reader (or listener) during Christmas break--enjoy!
Principal's Corner
Dear Tuscumbia School Community,
Welcome to 2nd semester! I can’t believe we are already halfway through January and we’ve only been back to school four days. The extra week off due to weather was not what I had planned for this month, but I hope everyone was able to enjoy some extra time at home.
With all of the sickness that went through the building right before Christmas break, grades are still being finalized as students work to complete missing finals. As soon as semester grade information is posted, grade cards will be sent out - which we hope will be next week. Please know that you can login to the parent portal on Infinite Campus to view your student’s grades at any time.
Last semester we had an increase in students who were coming to eat breakfast after the 8am bell rang. In order to protect instructional time and to ensure students who need to eat breakfast get to do so, we have made a change to our breakfast routine:
Students are able to report to the cafeteria at 7:40am when the breakfast bell rings to eat.
Students who arrive before 7:40am still report to the gym like normal, and then head to breakfast when the breakfast bell rings.
Students that arrive after 7:40am and need to eat breakfast should go straight to the cafeteria to eat instead of going to the classroom/gym first. They will be reminded of this by the front door monitors as they walk in the building.
Students who arrive after the 8am bell and need breakfast will be given a granola bar or smaller breakfast item to eat in class so instructional time is not missed.
If you have a student in grades K-4 please make sure they are coming to school with a coat. Students should be going outside for recess if there is NO precipitation happening (rain, snow, etc.) and if the temperature and/or feels like temperature is above 35 degrees. If you have a genuine need for a coat for your student, please reach out to the school as we have resources to assist with this.
Just a reminder that we do not have school Monday, January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I hope everyone enjoys the extended weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kirtley
Principal

Information for Getting a CDL to Drive a Bus
The process for getting a CDL is not difficult, and we will help you! Here is what you need to do:
- Take the written portion of the exam. Here is the study guide. You can get a printed copy at any testing site. You will need to take the test for School Bus, Class B with passengers. You do NOT need to test for air brakes.
- After you pass all portions, take the paper the testing site gives you to the license office and get your permit. You also have to take 2 forms of proof-of-residency and a photo ID.
- Come see us--James Luttrell is our federally approved site trainer, and he will provide your training to take the pre-check and driving portions of the test. He will also take you to the testing site when you take the test. Before he does that, we will need you to complete an application and get a fingerprint background check to ensure you are eligible to work for the district.
- After you pass your test, you will take your paperwork to the license office again with 2 forms of proof-of-residency and a photo ID and get your CDL.
- Keep all of your receipts--we reimburse for the permit, CDL, and fingerprints, and we pay for the drug testing and physical.
- As soon as you have a CDL, are approved by the Board, have a DOT physical, and pass a pre-employment drug test, you can sub bus routes and/or drive activity trips.
Are you interested in becoming a substitute teacher?
If you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher and you do not have the required 36 college hours, you can do an online course that will allow you to get a substitute certificate. Here is the link to that course, and here is the link to the DESE web page that gives you more information about what you need to do to get a substitute certification. Our daily rate for subs for the 2024-25 school year will be $100/day!
