Principal's Corner
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Wow—can you believe we only have two months of school left? Where did the time go? Our students have worked incredibly hard this year, and we’re so proud of their growth and achievements.
I hope you had a chance to relax and recharge during Spring Break. The year is flying by, and many of you are already beginning to think about the 2025–26 school year. To help with your planning, we’ve included the recently released school calendar below in this newsletter.
In addition, during the first week of May, you’ll receive an email with a short questionnaire about your child’s placement for the upcoming school year. Your input is extremely valuable as we begin forming class lists, so please keep an eye out for that email and take a few minutes to complete the form.
MSTEP Testing Information
We are now entering MSTEP Season. This state assessment will take place throughout the month of May and, like last year, will be administered online. It evaluates student understanding of Michigan’s academic standards in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
Testing Schedule:
- 5th Grade: April 15 – May 1 (all subject areas)
- 3rd & 4th Grade: April 27 – May 8 (Reading and Math only)
To help your child feel confident and prepared:
- Ensure they get a good night’s sleep before testing days
- Provide a healthy breakfast
Schedule doctor appointments after 1:00 p.m., if possible, to avoid conflicts with testing sessions (which will all take place in the morning)

Upcoming Sinking Fund Election Information
On May 6th, Grand Blanc voters will be asked to vote on the Grand Blanc Community Schools Sinking Fund Renewal. Please see the flyer below for detailed information on the importance of the Sinking Fund and how it helps our schools. At Cook and Mason Elementary Schools we have received new parking lots and updated secured entrances as part of the Sinking Fund Millage. The Sinking Fund has been approved by Grand Blanc voters for almost 50 years and is a very important part of our district's budget. The Sinking Fund is known as the "Warm, Safe & Dry" fund because it is used to keep our students and staff Warm, Safe & Dry. It cannot be used for salaries, benefits or supplies.
