Important Note: Students who do not participate in the required state testing will face disciplinary action and will not be eligible to re-enroll in SC Whitmore School. Testing windows, including those for End of Course Exams, are set by the state. To fill the gap between when a student finishes and EOC course and the test date, we have EOC Prep courses for Algebra and Biology. Teachers of English 2 and US History send exam review videos and other test prep material.

The South Carolina Association of Counties Board of Directors Scholarship Program

The South Carolina Association of Counties (SCAC) is pleased to announce its annual Board of Directors Scholarship Program. On a rotating basis, once every four years, one $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior/rising college freshman from each county in South Carolina. Students from the following counties are eligible to apply for the upcoming scholarship award: Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Charleston, Chester, Edgefield, Hampton, Lee, Sumter, Union, and York Counties. One student residing in each of these counties will be selected to receive a $5,000 scholarship to attend an in-state college or university for the 2025 fall semester.

Scholarship applicants must be current high school seniors planning to attend a South Carolina four-year college/university or a two-year technical college in the fall. All applicants must complete an online application and write an essay or in lieu of an essay submit a video on their aspirations and goals. A letter of recommendation and a student transcript are also required. The scholarship recipient will be selected by an SCAC Scholarship Selection Committee in April, with an announcement by the Board of Directors in May. SCAC will send the scholarship check directly to the school where the recipient is accepted.

Horry-Georgetown Technical College is hosting an Open House event at the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach on Saturday, March 1st from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

Greetings from the University of North Georgia!

The University of North Georgia's (UNG) Corps of Cadets will host National Leadership Challenge (NLC) Weekend on April 4-6, 2025 for JROTC cadets and other high school students who are considering a military program in college.

Your students will rappel down a sheer rock cliff at the Army's Mountain Ranger Camp in Dahlonega, construct a rope bridge across a mountain stream, negotiate obstacle and leadership reaction course elements, observe demonstrations by UNG cadet organizations, and meet some of our cadets. They will be assigned to small teams, and current UNG cadets mentor and guide them through the weekend's events.

Participants sleep in rustic, 16-person cabins on bunk beds at Camp Wahsega, a 4-H Camp owned by the University System of Georgia, approximately one mile from the Mountain Ranger Camp, and ten miles from our Dahlonega campus. Men and women will occupy separate cabins.

NLC Weekend is offered twice per year (fall and spring), and space is limited to 200 students per semester.

New York Tech’s School of Management’s free high school business bootcamp can help students build their resume and stand out as they apply for colleges and develop resumes for their careers. Trident Tech S.C. Life Scholarship awards up to $5,000

The S.C. LIFE Scholarship covers up to $5,000 per year (Fall and Spring Semesters) in tuition costs for eligible students.

Current LIFE Scholarship eligibility criteria:

• Be a S.C. resident

• Graduate from a S.C. high school with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 based on the S.C. Uniform Grading Policy

• Submit final official S.C. high school transcripts – GPA calculated on or before June 15

Here’s what to do if you are S.C. LIFE-eligible.

• Apply to TTC online at www.tridenttech.edu/start/apply.

• A few business days after you apply to TTC, we will send you an acknowledgment letter with information about how to access your new my.tridenttech.edu (student portal) account. From that time, almost all our communications with you will be through my.tridenttech.edu. Check your email often!

• Submit final official high school transcripts to TTC’s Admissions office.

• Final GPA must be a minimum of 3.0 on the S.C. Uniform Grading Scale, calculated on or before June 15.
• Official transcript must include ALL final grades. Courses cannot include work in progress.

• Submit the LIFE Scholarship Affidavit to TTC’s Financial Aid office. Get the affidavit:

• At any TTC campus.
• Online at bit.ly/SCLIFEaffidavit.

• Enroll in at least 12 college-level credit hours of non-remedial/bridge coursework.

ROTC Information

Even though SC Whitmore does not have an ROTC program, our students can attend many colleges and universities for free and get paid 400.00 a month.

Students will owe the US four years in the military or eight-plus years if they choose the National Guard.

High school students need to have SAT/ACT scores ( we know some schools will be different regarding tests and world languages) and a GPA of 2.5

Experience the Life of a Cadet - The Citadel

To fully experience the life of a cadet, The Citadel offers a monthly opportunity for prospective students to spend a full 24 hours as part of the Corps of Cadets. Interested students check-in at 5:00 PM on Thursday to spend the night in the barracks and eat in the mess hall. On Friday, parents and students attend information sessions, cadet panels, and academic forums designed provide an in-depth look at academic programs and the cadet experience at The Citadel.

I have a B.S. in Science and a M.A. in Teaching both from Coastal Carolina University. I have been teaching for over 18 years. I have taught all levels of science courses from 7th grade to technical college, from virtual to face-to-face. I love all parts of science and teaching.

What do you do at SCWS and what do you enjoy most about your role?

I am a science and elective teacher here at SCWS. Both as a an elective and science teacher I enjoy being able to foster student growth and inspire curiosity within my students.

What do you want the students to know about you?

I am here for them and can't wait for a wonderful year.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I'm an avid reader and home renovator but I also enjoy being outdoors and spending time with family, when it's not 'too hot'.

Tell a little bit about your background.

I'm from a small SC town and came into education through a non-traditional route almost 25 years ago. I'm an alum of Columbia College and the University of South Carolina. I hold a degree in my field of instruction.

What do you do at SCWS and what do you enjoy most about your role?

I'm an educator in the Math Department. I like converting students from people who 'hate math' to ones who profess 'it's not that bad' and begin to learn and enjoy math.

What do you want the students to know about you?

I, along with all of your teachers, are really available to help as often and as much as you need it. Also, The Boston Celtics are 2024 NBA CHAMPIONS!!!! Let's Go Celtics!

Student Council🗳️

S.C. Whitmore Student Council is an organization of student leaders who are elected by the student body. The Council is led by the Student Body President along with offices of Vice President and Secretary. The Council provides input into how to make student life better at SC Whitmore School. They also plan events and contribute in other areas the administration of the school sees fit. The Council is advised by a faculty sponsor who attends all meetings.

National Beta Club

Beta Club is a group of students committed to leading through serving others in their community and state. These students are selected based upon their GPA, attendance and behavior. Students work to complete volunteer hours, as well as come together as a team to complete a service project. Induction Ceremony is held in the fall.

The SC Whitmore National Honor Society is an organization for students in grades 10-12. Selection is based on four criteria: scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Members complete volunteer hours and work together to complete at least one service project each school year. Membership into the National Honor Society allows students to apply for over 400 college scholarships not available to other students. Members also have access to numerous college planning services.

What about sports?

Students are eligible to participate in sports and other extracurricular activities at their local high school. Contact your local high school for more information.

Touch of Magic Events

The Midlands Family Expo will return to Columbia in 2025 so save the date! Join us on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention from 11:00-4:00 pm to learn, shop, and play. This event is all indoors.

Why Do We Host the Expo?

Our goal is to help families make informed decisions by providing easy access to the products, services, and community resources they need to raise a happy, healthy family. The event will have over 100 vendors sharing important information for expecting parents, families, and caregivers!

What Activities are at the Expo?

Kids of all ages can enjoy free airbrush face painting, balloon animals, obstacle course, crafts, and more fun activities plus meet popular characters. Families can enjoy the fun photo booth and adults can get a free chair massage! Plus, we'll have fun performances and giveaways. Admission and all activities are free!
