Upcoming Field Trips
As a part of the sixth grade Geography curriculum, students participate in a field trip to Adas Israel Synagogue, The American Faizl Mosque, and Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, here in DC. These three local places of worship help our sixth grade geography students learn the history of the worldβs three major monotheist religions as part of βUnit 3: The Middle East & North Africa.β We will specifically be learning about the history, beliefs, & symbols of each religion. It is not a trip to βdoβ a religion, but rather to understand the basic foundations of each religion. On Wednesday, December 4, Team Berlin students will hear from leaders in each of the institutions and have a chance to ask questions while in the space these leaders represent.
Materials to bring
β’ Kids Ride Free Card
β’ A lunch that we will eat at the park
β’ Wear walking shoes
β’ Water bottle
β’ Pencil and clipboard
β’ String backpack or tote to carry
β’ Wear layers
We want to thank our partners in advance for helping to make this experience possible and for taking time to make this field trip possible for each of our five Deal 6th grade teams.

World Geography
Last Week students took their MENA Map quiz, and after launch into the unit theme of the three monotheistic religions and their history in the cultural region. We started by reading and identifying the main historical points, beliefs, and practices of Judaism first.
This Week students will continue their reading by identifying the main historical points, beliefs, and practices of Christianity and Islam. They will have their field trip on Wednesday, visiting three places of worship. After we will close the week with examining the Old City of Jerusalem and how the place is holy to all three monotheist religions.
English Language & Arts (ELA)
During the break, I highly recommend reviewing grades with your student. I have all grades updated, especially for the Museum Summative, Museum Formative, and Continuation Summative.
I have reached out to individuals whose students are missing an assignment. Please remember my deadline for late work will be Friday, December 6th.
If your student got below an 85% on the Museum Summative, they may redo it for the best possible grade of 85%. Please check Canvas and my comments on their assignment. This assignment was supposed to have: 3 artifacts that connect to their chosen theme relating to courage, 3 images, and full descriptions of the artifacts. This was a powerpoint.
Next week, as we return from break, we are beginning Tuck Everlasting. If you purchased a copy, your student should begin bringing it to class every day starting 12/2.
Weekly schedule:
Monday β RCT 3 β Prologue
Tuesday β chapters 1-2
Wednesday β Field trip
Thursday β chapters 3-5
Friday β Chapters 6-9
If your student misses school, please ensure they catch up on reading.
