Greetings Gators!
A huge thank you to our Community Alliance and PIE for a successful Fall Fest on Saturday! Main Street Middle School was well represented with three dunk tank volunteers and our own Mrs. Harper running the dunk tank show. Students were volunteering and participating throughout the day whether performing, popping popcorn, or taking a shot to dunk their teacher or principal...a wonderful event fully displaying the awesome community at MRPS. Thank you to the caregivers and students that organized, volunteered, and supported this event. I look forward to getting dunked again next year.
SST KickOff: Today was the kick-off our SST time across the whole building. Each student was placed in a group with a goal targeted to expand their knowledge, support their learning, or enrich their previously mastered learning. Be sure to ask your student what their SST group is and what goals they are working on during the next few weeks at Main Street.
What awesome things did our Gators do last week?
- 7th and 8th Graders grapple with their understanding of power, their values, and how to make a difference in their world.
- 6th Graders giving each other “Glow and Grow” feedback on each other’s writing during SST.
- Students still making use of ALL the spaces of the gym to exercise during indoor recess
- 5th grade mathematicians drawing three-dimensional shapes
- Nurse Caitlin help our community with the bumps and bruises that happen when we're active.
- Our jazz band making beautiful music already sounding great as a cohesive group
- Spanish students playing Bingo and helping their principal play with them.
- Our new choral teacher, Mr. Liam Hart, bringing song back into the building!
- Paper airplane competitions among TAs.
- Our Field Hockey team celebrate a BIG win this week!
- 5th Graders sharing their reading with a book buddy.
- Mathematicians working to master geometric transformations.
- First student-created Gator Bite!
False Alarm: Just a quick FYI that one of our sensors triggered an unexpected evacuation drill this morning. Our staff and students were AMAZING and went with the flow to quickly and quietly exit the building. They did such a great job that when our wonderful Montpelier Fire Department quickly came after just a few minutes they were wondering if we had evacuated at all because they didn't see our students as they were all out of the building and where they were supposed to be on our two side streets! So impressive. The building was determined to be secure and students quickly resumed their regular routines! Great job, Gators!
Social Media: Look for Main Street Middle School on Instagram and Facebook! We are working to post regularly pictures and snapshots of all the awesome things happening in our school to share with you and our community!

This week: The New Innovation Lab
This year marks the debut of the new 7th and 8th grade Specials classroom program in the Innovation Lab. In this class, students use design thinking and a range of programming, digital, and mechanical tools to create innovative solutions to a range of problems and challenges. From hand-crafted small gifts to large parties, students imagine, create, and share their work.
Students in all classes and all grades have access to the hands-on tools; the instructor, Eli Rosenberg, works with teachers at every level to integrate the tools with science, technology, engineering, arts, and math lessons.
