Message From Our Principal
Sailor families,
The warm weather is definitely a blessing this time of year. I hope you are all doing well and able to enjoy some time outside. Few key reminders: Check out the Fall Fest info. (It’s going to be awesome), No school this Friday (Teacher professional development day), and Picture Day on Tuesday the 26th.
School Safety
Over the course of the last week, I have met with every classroom to talk about School Safety. I ask students the question, “Why do you feel safe at BH?”. The answers are heartwarming and very honest. Here are some of the top answers: Doors are locked, security cameras, lots of teachers and students all over the place, drills we practice, people care about me and know me. My #1 goal is for students to feel safe while they are here and for parents to trust that their most prized possession is in good hands. I ensure our conversations are at a developmentally appropriate level and that students have time to ask questions and to participate in discussions.
All HSSD schools are required to do an all-school EVACUATION drill. Our drill will take place on Thursday morning at 9:30am. An announcement will be made by me and then teachers will walk students outside to the predetermined Rally Point, take attendance, and then will return to school promptly. Our school resource officers along with the local fire department will assist with this drill so that our students can see it is “All Hands on Deck” when it comes to safety. I reviewed in advance with each class exactly what will take place for this drill.
Below is some more information about ALICE as it relates to school safety.
ALICE stands for:
Alert: Get the word out, using clear concise language
Lockdown: Will include locking the door but also barricading so as to deny entry.
Inform: Continue to communicate via the PA system or other means. Give real time detailed information during the crisis.
Counter: Apply skills of movement, noise, distance and distraction to confuse someone (if they are close to you).
Evacuate: Get out of the building as quickly as possible and go to our Rally Point.
The steps of ALICE are not necessarily linear. The most important thing we will teach our students is to LISTEN TO AND ADULT and make choices based on the situation which includes evacuating and going to our Rally Point.
Have a great rest of your week,
Tony Ebeling, Bay Harbor Principal
PICTURE DAY IS SEPTEMBER 26TH!
PTO PORT:
Letter From Our PTO
Hello!
The Bay Harbor Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization is preparing for our annual Fall Fest celebration. In addition to fun family activities, this event is a major fundraising effort for the PTO. The PTO uses these funds to benefit the students, staff, and families of the Bay Harbor community. We have provided bussing for field trips, an Artist in Residence, free books for each student, and additional apps for school iPads. With the community’s support, we were able to raise over $9,700 at our 2022 Fall Fest. Our goal for the 2023 Fall Fest is to raise $10,000 to continue providing for our Bay Harbor family.
We are looking for community partners to donate items, gift cards, and unique experiences to be used in our silent auction, as well as sponsorships of Fall Fest activities and prizes. Businesses and organizations providing donations will be featured on a thank you poster at the event, displayed with your donation, and included in programs given to attendees and Bay Harbor families. To be included in these promotional materials, we are asking to have donations and any business logos to us by October 1. We are happy to pick up any donations you are able to provide.
Thank you for your support of our Bay Harbor students and the Bay Harbor PTO. We look forward to hearing from you!
Thank you for your consideration of our request,
Bay Harbor PTO
