Over the past few days, our classroom has been filled with laughter, discovery, and cultural celebrations that engaged both children and parents alike. From exploring the senses through juicy oranges to weaving imagination with stories and soaring high with kites, each experience was a step towards enriching the children’s understanding of the world around them.

Our little learners embarked on a delightful sensory adventure with oranges! As they held, peeled, and squeezed the fruit, they engaged all their senses—feeling the rough peel, smelling the fresh citrus burst, noticing the vibrant colour, counting seeds, and finally tasting the sweet and tangy juice. Each step sparked curiosity, encouraged observation, and strengthened fine motor skills. The highlight of this experience was making fresh orange juice! As they eagerly squeezed the oranges, they discovered new words like "squeeze," "peel," "pulp," and "juicy," making vocabulary building an exciting, hands-on experience. It was a moment of pure joy as they sipped the juice they had made, understanding how simple ingredients can create something delicious with a little effort and patience.

There’s something truly magical about stories, and what better way to experience that magic than with the warmth of our own families? In a heartwarming session, parents stepped into the storyteller’s chair, bringing tales to life through expressive voices, animated gestures, and engaging narratives. Festivals are the heartbeat of culture, and Kai Po Che was a vibrant display of tradition, joy, and togetherness. The air was filled with excitement as they celebrated the spirit of Makar Sankranti. The celebration then took flight—quite literally! Parents and children came together to fly kites, experiencing the thrill of watching their kites soar high in the sky. This beautiful moment of shared joy was more than just a fun activity—it was a lesson in teamwork, patience, and the exhilaration of seeing efforts take flight.

Our Kai Po Che event was a grand celebration where parents and children came together to enjoy fun-filled activities. This month, our young learners have been actively preparing for Sports Day with enthusiasm and teamwork! One of the highlights was the parachute drill, where students worked together to create exciting formations like the dome and mushroom, showcasing their coordination and collaboration skills.

Adding a fun learning twist, the teacher created a hopscotch game on helping verbs! Using colourful chalk, the skating area was transformed into a lively game board. Students eagerly hopped through words like is, am, are, I, you, they, and we, reinforcing their understanding of grammar while staying active.

Another fascinating experience was the sandpit activity, where students built different landforms and explored erosion and deposition. By blowing through straws to mimic the wind and pouring water to simulate rivers, they observed how natural forces shape our land over time.

Through these engaging activities, students not only strengthened their physical skills but also deepened their learning in a playful and memorable way!

Learning has always been a journey that never truly ends—it has grown with us each day, bringing new discoveries and opportunities to reflect and improve. Our Grade 3 students, full of curiosity and enthusiasm, explored the transdisciplinary theme of How the World Works. As they delved into the fascinating world of simple and compound machines, they didn’t just identify levers and pulleys—they saw how these tools made life easier. With every reflection, their understanding deepened, and their curiosity blossomed.

In every task—whether it was exploring 3D shapes in numeracy, understanding adverbs in language, or discussing the Golden Gate Bridge in inquiry—collaborative group work remained a cornerstone. Working in groups taught patience, active listening, and respect for others’ ideas. Through these shared experiences, students learned not just content but how to navigate the world with confidence and empathy.

As we facilitated their learning, we also gave them the space to take the lead, watching their independence and critical thinking flourish. They discovered that learning wasn’t just about mastering facts—it was about growth, exploration, and an ongoing curiosity to understand the world around them. It was a joy to witness them embrace challenges, realizing that the journey of learning is limitless, shaping not only their knowledge but also the individuals they are becoming, both inside and beyond the classroom.

In Grade 4, learning is an adventure that never ends, and this month, students under the theme ‘Who We Are’ embarked on a journey to explore how rules help us when we play. Through a thought-provoking debate on whether players should receive yellow cards in soccer, they reflected on the importance of rules in ensuring fairness and discipline in games. To deepen their understanding, students conducted case studies on players committing fouls in various games, analyzing the consequences and learning about the ethics of sportsmanship.

Connecting their learning to real-life experiences, students actively participated in Sports Day practices. They reflected on the games they enjoy the most and the skills they are developing, such as strength and focus in Kudo or agility, and coordination through football drills. These practices helped them understand the importance of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance in achieving their goals.

To broaden their horizons further, a General Knowledge quiz challenged the students to enhance their awareness of the world, encouraging curiosity and critical thinking.

Currently, the Grade 4 learners are channeling their creativity and teamwork into preparing for their Summative Assessment. In groups, they are designing innovative mental and physical games, focusing on collaboration and skill enhancement. This engagement not only reinforces the importance of rules but also allows students to showcase their unique ideas and abilities.

Through every engagement, Grade 4 continues to embrace the idea that learning is a continuous process, where every experience is a step towards growth and excellence.

In Grade 5, our inquiry into the theme ‘Sharing the Planet’ led us to explore how risks and challenges faced by children across the world impact their lives. Through research, discussions, and creative expressions, students deepened their understanding of global issues.

One of the highlights was a role play on Malala Yousafzai, where students brought to life her inspiring journey advocating for girls' education. This engaging activity helped them understand the power of education in transforming lives and societies.

Students also created zines—mini-magazines filled with illustrations, facts, and reflections—based on their research on various risks faced by children, such as poverty, child labour, and lack of access to education. This hands-on project encouraged creativity while reinforcing critical thinking and communication skills.

Through these activities, students realized that learning is a continuous process beyond textbooks. Their growing awareness of real-world issues empowered them to think about solutions and become active global citizens.
