A Message From Our Principal
Greetings:
What a great Spirit Week here at the High School! Our cheerleaders decorated hallways and lockers for school pride! On Monday, students got to dress like a favorite character or meme. Tuesday was a fantastic day where students were able to show off their culture. Students dressed in their cultural attire showing the beautiful diversity that exists in EHT. Wednesday was color wars where each grade level had a specific color to wear and represent. Of course, Thursday was throwback Thursday to the 80's/90's and things worn on MTV. Finally, Friday is Spirit Day as we support our athletic teams in EHT School Pride Day. Students had a great week!
Homecoming nominees and winners will be announced during halftime of the homecoming football game on Friday, October 22. Don’t forget to come out and support the candidates and our team! We will finish this fabulous week with a Homecoming dance on Saturday, October 23. Student’s have already purchased tickets. They have been told not to bring any bags with them and that ID’s are necessary as well as masks. Students will be expected to wear masks inside unless they are dancing or sitting down and eating. The chaperones and administration are looking forward to a fun evening!
You may be interested in some of the fall sports play off games! Their seasons are winding down and you can check out the new and improved web page for the Athletic Department which has information for all our sports! Let’s not forget also about the amazing job our band has been doing in competition. You can see their awesome performance at the half time of our homecoming football game!
Start Strong test was administered to any student that missed it last week and our freshman students completed their assessment during their science classes all this week. As of Friday all testing has been completed for grades 9, 10 and 12. This works well since it’s just in time to administer the Grade 11 PSAT on Tuesday, October 27!
The MSA had a busy week as they learned about blood borne pathogens. They also had a great presentation by our two fabulous media specialists, Ms. Grossman and Ms.Sullivan concerning resources that will help them throughout the year and beyond as they navigate through their courses.
Until next week, have a wonderful weekend! Stay safe, be well, continue to dream of the possibilities ahead of us, be happy and smile at someone!
Ms. Connor

School Violence...Making Those Connections
☑️ Students who have engaged in ongoing aggressive or "bullying" behavior during Middle School are 7 times more likely to engage in Teen Dating Violence in High School.
☑️ 50-80% of high school students have reported knowing others who were involved in violent relationships.
☑️ 2018 had the most school shootings on record, but U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security research shows that if we “know the signs” of gun violence, we can prevent it and reverse the trend.
▶️ The MAJORITY of individuals with diagnosed mental illness DO NOT engage in violence against others. ◀️
☑️ 70% of people who die by suicide tell someone their plans or give some other type of warning signs.
☑️ 39% of parents wrongly believe children don’t know where a gun is stored.
☑️ An estimated 4.6 million American children live in a home where at least one gun is kept loaded and unlocked.
☑️ 17 states have enacted Extreme Risk Laws, meaning that Law Enforcement can remove guns/weapons from a person deemed to be at risk. New Jersey HAS BEEN one of these states for a long time, but the majority has been implemented in other states following the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018.
💡 PLEASE...If You See Something, Then Say Something.
The High School has adopted a new bullying-prevention program for this school year! #DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion. This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams. We even have 3 of our own students who were selected by the foundation as leaders for this initiative! The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring. This notion is called being an #Upstander.
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
