Summer Enrichment Camp/School
Our Schools
Classrooms across the district took time to celebrate their love of reading during Read Across America Week. Students had fun enjoying theme days, mystery readers, and some even had extra reading times with 'Drop Everything And Read' parties. Thanks to everyone that shared photos and had fun celebrating this fun week.
Blue Ridge Read-a-Thon Fun!
Blue Ridge Elementary worked hard to raise funds with a read-a-thon. During this fundraiser, students worked hard and met their goal to read over 200,000 minutes! Other fun ways they encouraged reading to meet their goal included flashlight reading, Starbooks, book tastings, guest readers and theme days like animal print day. Thanks to the Kansas City Comets players for taking time to be guest readers as shown in the photo. Congrats to Blue Ridge on their successful read-a-thon.
Southwood fifth graders welcome guests from Wayside Waifs
Southwood Elementary School welcomed Karen Wallace of Wayside Waifs and her dog, Linus, to show the kids what it is like to take care of a pet. Students had a chance to put their teamwork skills into action by playing games and doing activities with Linus. Students loved rewarding Linus with treats when he showed off his tricks! Thanks to Karen and Wayside Waifs for this real-life learning opportunity for our students. We look forward to seeing you again!
Raytown South Middle School Band Recruitment
Sixth grade band students along with some of the Raytown South High band members hosted incoming sixth graders for our annual band recruitment day. Ms. Romero and Mr. Brown created a fun and engaging presentation to garner interest for new band members. We can't wait to hear them play next year.

Substitute of the Month
Congratulations to Mr. Spenser Sneddon for being named the Raytown Quality Schools February/March Substitute of the Month. Mr. Sneddon has been a substitute in RQS since September 2023 and has a five star sub rating. The district appreciates your hard work, dedication, and determination in following daily tasks and lessons to keep students on track.
Don't Forget | Calendar Change for May 6
To offset the "red snow day" on February 14, there will be a change in the calendar for May 6, 2024, which will now be an attendance day for all RQS students. The district has one more AMI day should the need for an inclement weather day arise.
Kick-off to Summer Family Night Fun
Family Support Services and the English Language Development team recently hosted a Kick-off to Summer Family Night complete with a prom boutique and an opportunity for students to select new shoes for the summer. Thanks to everyone that helped and participated to make this a success.
