... and bug spray! Since I sent this out, I have heard that it is buggy!
Safford Kindergarten
Over the past 3 week the Safford Skittles have been observing the butterfly life cycle in our classroom! We watched 13 caterpillars grow, form chrysalises, then emerge into beautiful Painted Lady butterflies! I was able to get a video of one as it crawled out of its chrysalis! We have released them all here at GVS.
Hopefully the link below works so you can see the video!

GVS Employment Opportunities
Mrs. McFarland’s class made self-watering planters out of plastic bottles.
Library Books
From Mr. Pollard in the Library: Library books should be returned no later than Tuesday, June 11th. Please take some time to locate any GVS library books at home or in the classroom and return them as soon as possible. Ask your child about the Pie Contest!
Please remember to pay your preschool and before school fees...
All items ordered through the Kid’s Café will be charged to your child’s PaySchools account.
The Grantham meal program operates like a debit account. Parents deposit money into their
child’s account either by writing a check or by using Payschools.com (instructions on GVS
Website; please contact frontoffice@gvshawks.org if you need your child’s School ID). Meals
and milk are deducted from the account when your child checks out at the counter.
- Please make checks payable to Grantham Village School. Checks are preferred
over cash. If you are sending in one check to pay for two or more children, please
indicate how you would like the money divided.
Any questions or concerns can be discussed by calling Grantham Village School
(863-1681 ext. 1090) or sending me an email (dbailey@gvshawks.org).
Applications for free and reduced lunch are available throughout the year. You can request
one by calling the school at 603-863-1681.
Four Winds May/June:
Four Winds wrapped up our year long study of Structure and Function with a unit called The Buzz on Bees. Students were able to study the anatomy of dead bees using hand lenses and then had the opportunity to talk about bee anatomy as we had fun dressing a teacher or peer as a bee. Many of our classes practiced being pollinators as we visited flowers around school grounds with q-tip "pollen brushes". The highlight for many students however was finding out that bees communicate through dancing! That's right, bees communicate the location of a food source through dancing! Ask your PreK through 4th grade student to show you their best waggle dance. If you are interested to learn more about this fascinating bee behavior you can view this short video that was shown in some of our classes: https://youtu.be/PRGc7skekMQ
I want to thank all the parents, grandparents, and community members who volunteered with Four Winds this year. This is a fantastic program that would not happen without you! I myself had the opportunity to fill in for some of our volunteers in several different classrooms this year and can say that across the board that these students were always excited for Four Winds.
If anyone is interested in volunteering next year please reach out. Our workshops usually start the first week of school. Time requirements are minimal: an optional 2 hour workshop once a month (materials are available online if you can't attend) and a 1 hour lesson in the classroom each month (times are flexible and mutually agreed upon between teachers and volunteers). No experience necessary, we will provide all lessons and materials!
