- If your child will be absent, please notify the school as early as possible.
- If you need to leave a message for your child at the end of the day, please call by 2:30 as our office is very busy at the end of the day.
Thank you for your continued support in helping make this school year a success. We are so grateful for the opportunity to partner with you in your child’s educational journey. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful February!

Art continues to be busy, busy, busy! 2nd and 3rd graders are starting to explore color theory. We are learning how to mix different colors. We are creating art using primary, secondary, warm/cool colors and analogous colors. 4th graders are diving into the ancient art of radial symmetry while they create unique mandalas. 5th grade spent some time creating dragon eyes with charcoal as well as starting the process of creating art for our art show. What art show? Let me tell you! We will be having our annual Family Art Night on April 11. I will definitely send out more information as we get closer. For this reason the students will not be bringing home art for a while. I am collecting their finished pieces so they have a portfolio to choose from for their display.
Estamos aprendiendo a mezclar diferentes colores.
English Language Learners
Supporting Our ELL Students in Language Growth!
At our school, our English Language Learners (ELL) program helps students develop all four parts of language—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—so they can express themselves confidently and effectively. This year, we focus on key language uses: arguing, narrating, informing, and explaining. These skills help students engage deeply with their learning while strengthening their ability to communicate across subjects.
In Level 2 (2nd grade), students explore animals and their unique features. They learn words like food, water, shelter, features, predator, prey, attack, attract, message, recognize, and seem through engaging activities. These words help students describe how animals survive and interact with their environment.
In Level 3 (3rd grade), students are studying ecosystems. They are expanding their vocabulary with words such as ecosystems, rivers, food chains, drought, level, competition, nature, negative, positive, and resources to understand better how plants, animals, and humans affect each other.
In Level 4 (4th grade), students learn about animal intelligence. They use words like memory, command, imitate, pattern, skill, tool, ability, communication, inherit, and language to describe how animals think, problem-solve, and interact with humans and each other.
In Level 5 (5th grade), students are diving into the world of electricity! They learn words such as circuit, current, conduct, volt, watt, electrical, insulate, solar, alternate, decrease, energy, obstacle, and rely as they explore how energy flows and powers our world.
Families play a crucial role in language learning! Talking with your child in your home language about these topics helps them understand concepts more deeply and strengthens their learning. Bilingualism is a powerful skill, and students who speak multiple languages are brilliant! Thank you for supporting your child’s language journey and encouraging them to become confident communicators.

School Bus Hub
Garfield 16 is proud to announce that we will be using a new technology called School Bus HUB. This technology will allow real-time tracking. Which means parents/guardians can track their child's school bus in real-time using the School Bus HUB app. This feature provides peace of mind by allowing parents to know exactly where their child's bus is along its route. For this to work, parents you must have accurate information for your students on file at your students school. If they ride a bus, please fill out current paperwork.
