IMPORTANT: EDCHOICE REQUIREMENTS
Our school has 175 scholarships awarded for the 2024-25 school year. There are two important steps that I need parents to complete in order for the school to receive scholarship funds to cover tuition costs:
- For each awarded EdChoice scholarship, I must have an Acceptance Form signed and turned in at the office. I'm sending out forms in the Blue Folders today to those of you who have not yet done so. Please sign and return those immediately.
- Please follow the LINK to authorize St. Bernard School to deposit funds from the scholarship checks to pay for tuition. The Ohio Department of Education issues scholarship checks on a monthly basis which require this permission to be deposited. Please take care of this immediately as well.
Please contact me in the school office if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
Yours in Christ,
Kenny Glassmeyer, Office Manager

From the Principal:
Dear St. Bernard Parents,
I’d like to start off with the best news of all… Mr. Tiettmeyer (aka Mr. George) has a baby! Our beloved maintenance and custodial man welcomed his first child into the world on Tuesday evening. Hazel Sue (along with Mrs. Tiettmeyer) is happy and healthy! Please pray for George, Kelly, and Hazel as they transition home from the hospital and begin family life together. We are grateful for Mr. George and so happy for him on this special occasion.
Speaking of babies… October is Respect Life Month and as Catholics we designate time this month to pray that the dignity of EVERY human being is upheld and cherished. Much of the energy of Respect Life Month goes toward praying for an end to abortion and catechizing that life is sacred and that it begins at conception. Respect Life Month also calls us though to consider the dignity of ALL life - the unborn in the womb as well as the other marginalized groups in our society. There is actually a beautiful overlap of things lately with the students’ GPS (God’s Plan in Scripture) Program - I think this is God’s providence at work... This past Sunday the First Reading at Mass was from the Book of Genesis and told of the creation of Eve from Adam’s rib. These stories (including Adam’s creation from the dust of the earth) remind us that all people are created in the image and likeness of God and so deserve the respect due to likenesses of God. Let us pray for the Respect Life cause and also act in a way that acknowledges the dignity of all people as made in God’s image - this can be done through social causes and organizations (like our support of Pregnancy Center West) as well as through a renewed commitment to treat others with kindness, patience, generosity, and love. Have some conversations with your children this month about the Church’s teaching on the dignity and sanctity of life and how we can uphold that!
In other October news… Be mindful that as the weather gets cooler we are quickly approaching our switchover from our “hot weather uniform.” This means no more dress shorts for boys and no more dress shorts or skorts for girls. October 31 is the last day for the “hot weather uniform.”
Have a great evening! God bless!
Sincerely,
Mr. Ertel

This Public Square Rosary, sponsored by America Needs Fatima, has the goal of over
22,500 rallies across the United States on October 12. The Legion of Mary, host of the
rosary rally at St. Bernard, welcomes your participation! This marks St. Bernard's fifth
year of participation in the rally. Rosaries and prayers will be provided.
Plan on attending to pray for our country. Invite friends and family!
A terrific opportunity to put our faith in action!
This year is the 107 th anniversary of the miracle of the sun: On October 13,1917, Our
Lady performed a miracle witnessed by 70,000 people, including atheists, communists,
and anti-Catholics in Fatima, Portugal. Some of them converted.
Through the Most Holy Rosary, we ask Our Lord and Our Lady for the conversion of
America so that it may fulfill its historic mission.
“The Rosary will be a very powerful armor against hell; it will destroy vice, deliver from
sin, and dispel heresy.” Our Lady to St. Dominic
Spirit of St. Bernard Day is on Friday, October 25th!
This month, we will be supporting Pregnancy Center West. They are in need of newborn diapers, onesies, sleepers, bibs, and clothing. In order to be out of uniform on this day, students must bring in a dollar donation or one of the newborn items listed above.
Out of Uniform for All Saints Day: Friday, November 1st
All Souls' Day: Saturday, November 2
Dear St. Bernard Parents,
All Souls’ Day is observed on November 2 each year. On this day and throughout the month of
November, we remember in a special way all those who have died. At this time, we find comfort
in knowing that our family members and friends, who now rest in Christ’s heavenly Peace, are
not forgotten.
To perpetuate the memory of these special people, we are assembling a book in which we will
place the names of these relatives, friends, and anyone else you would like to have
remembered in our prayers. Each family is being given a blank page, from the memory book, on
which the names of deceased loved ones should be written. Please complete the page and
return to school by October 25, 2024.
We will remember these and the souls of all of the faithful departed in our daily prayers. God be
with you and bless you, always!

Catholic High School Admissions Links
Due to the high volume of recruiting and admissions events that we receive information for, I'm opting to include links to all of the area Catholic high schools that have either shared information for the newsletter or one or more families have expressed interest in.
8th Grade Parents: Attached is the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Release of Records Authorization Form for high school applicants. I'll send them home in the Blue Folders today as well.
I've received two completed forms so far. Please make sure you are registering your 8th grader for the High School Placement Test and completing all application requirements as prescribed by the high schools. St. Bernard records will be sent according to your forms following the Trimester 1 report cards. I usually send records while Parent/Teacher Conferences are being held on the week of Thanksgiving.
