Schewe's Speech
As we move forward into October, we want to take a moment to highlight the critical role that regular attendance plays in your child’s academic success and overall development.
Research shows that students who attend school consistently have better social, emotional, and academic outcomes. Missing just a few days here and there, even if they seem minor, can add up quickly and make it harder for students to keep up with their learning. When children are present in school, they have the opportunity to engage in classroom activities, collaborate with their peers, and access the support they need to reach their fullest potential.
To help ensure all students are on the path to reaching their full potential, we closely monitor attendance and will be sending home letters for students whose attendance has dropped below 93% and again if it falls below 90%. These letters are intended to raise awareness and to partner with you in identifying any barriers to regular attendance, so we can provide support and resources as needed.
We understand that children may occasionally need to stay home due to illness or family emergencies, and we appreciate your communication during these times. However, frequent absences — even just a few days a month — can add up quickly and impact your child’s learning and social connections.
Thank you for working with us to ensure your child is present, engaged, and ready to learn each day. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s attendance further, please feel free to reach out to us.
Trunk Or Treat Update
Each year, our PTO and school leadership team—which includes certified and non-certified staff, as well as parents—take time to carefully evaluate the events hosted by both the PTO and our school. Our goal is to ensure that these events align with our school’s values and foster a sense of inclusivity for all.
After thoughtful consideration, we have made the decision to no longer hold our annual Trunk or Treat event. While we know this event has been enjoyed by many in the past, we also recognize that it does not fully encompass the diverse needs and perspectives of our entire Hanna Woods community. It is important to us that all students and families feel welcome and included in the events we offer.
As we continue to plan community activities, we will remain committed to reflecting on how each event can best represent and serve every member of our school family. We value your support and understanding as we work to create meaningful and inclusive experiences for all.
