I hope this message finds you well and that you had a wonderful weekend!

It was very exciting to have our students back together on campus. We focused on "all things WoodCreek" this past week, including safety procedures for our newest students and reminders to our returning ones. It was also great seeing many familiar student faces and hearing all the fun activities they did this Summer.

In this week’s newsletter you will find important information about what is coming up with our Timberwolves in the next few weeks. Please plan accordingly, as our drop off lines will be long. Be sure to be courteous of others and pack your patience. Safety will continue to be our top priority and I need the entire community’s help to ensure a safe and successful start of the school year.

Lastly, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. It is important that the lines of communication between all members of our school community remain open and available.

Friday, August 30th

Tutorial Information at WoodCreek Junior High

They will be held from 8:20-8:50am per the subject and grade schedule.

Students will enter the building for tutorials between 8:15-8:30am at the BACK OF THE SCHOOL, on the academic end of the building, through the door near Room 1173 (8th Grade Math Hallway). Students arriving after 8:30am will not be permitted to attend tutorials and will have to enter the building through the school’s main entrance.

If your student receives morning detention, please review the following information:

STUDENT MUST BE DROPPED OFF AND ENTER AT THE BACK OF THE BUILDING. (This is the SAME entrance as tutorials - see map above). Your student should arrive by 7:30am promptly. If your student is late, then your student will need to re-schedule with their Assistant Principal in making up the hour. Detention is from 7:30-8:30am, so the student will stay here on campus until school starts at 8:55am.

A parent/guardian of a school-age child has the responsibility to require that his/her child attend school regularly.

When sickness or another reason necessitates an absence, a note signed by the parent/guardian or phone call explaining the reason for the absence is required prior to or when the student returns to school.

If a student fails to submit a note from the parent or the school does not receive a phone call from the parent, the absence will automatically be considered unexcused.

We appreciate the parents and caregivers and want everyone to know we are here to work with you and your child. There may be days that your child doesn't feel 100%. As long as they are not running a fever or contagious, coming to school is still the best way to stay on top of their studies and continue to gain the knowledge and education that we strive to provide all students.

At WCJH, student Chromebooks will be distributed through English classes.

8/14-15: 6th Grade

8/16-19: 7th Grade

8/20-21: 8th Grade

• Chromebook cases and stickers have already been put on to eliminate a step during distribution

• Student canvas course will be completed during advisory

Parents registering their students for the 2024-25 school year have the option to select the Class 1:1 Device Insurance Option. This option covers your student’s Chromebook device. All student fees, including the device insurance fee, will be sent to our Pay N’ Go system for payment on August 12th. You will be able to pay your insurance fee at that time.

Please note, this only applies to students in 3rd – 12th grades. For further information, please visit our Pay N’ Go website or for more detailed documentation, please view this Pay N’ Go Student Fee article. If you would like to change your device insurance selection from NO to YES, please email changemyrequest@katyisd.org with your student’s Katy ID, name and campus and we will update your insurance option from NO to YES. Please note, you are only eligible to make this change and pay in full, 30-days after your student’s first day of attendance.

If you need to change your students insurance option for Chromebooks, please have them email changemyrequest@katyisd.org with their student's Katy ID, Campus Name and switch the insurance option from NO to YES. This can only be done for the first 30 days of enrollment. After that, they can no longer request the insurance. This information is also sent out every week on behalf of the district.

Orchestra Parent Meeting Tuesday, 8/20

Science Olympiad Tryouts

Cody St. Lawrence, a WCJH student who signed up for the tournament. Since he was the only one signed up from WCJH, they combined several schools who also had few players signed up to create the “Katy Combo“ team. The team played two pool play games (for ranking purposes) back to back on Friday evening and lost both games. Last Sunday, they won their first tournament game and were eliminated after losing their second game (single elimination).

Our 6th graders, the team (Woodcreek MSM Red), played and won both pool play games on Saturday, but lost their first game on Sunday. They were ultimately eliminated (single elimination).

Even though it was insanely hot, the kids all had an amazing time and have met new friends/classmates and teammates. Way to represent WoodCreek boys! - as always GO TIMBERWOLVES!
