TRACY'S MESSAGE
Kia Ora Ano
Wasn’t it nice to have some more freedoms and be with our friends and wider whānau over the weekend. As you will know we are still in COVID level 2 until the decision is revised next Monday…thank you for supporting level 2 restrictions - it is much appreciated and it is lovely to see how settled and calm our tamariki are. It certainly is WONDERFUL to have all those smiling faces back at school.
As we move down the COVID-19 alert levels it is important for us to take time to reflect on lockdown particularly in relation to distance learning and communication with our whanau.
Distance learning was a challenging time for our learners and our staff. We would love to hear from you about what worked and what are some things that we could change. Your feedback will be invaluable to support future planning. Please complete this very quick survey
This week we celebrate Te Whiki o Te Reo Māori.
He aha i te wiki? He aha e kore ai i te tau? He aha e kore ai e tekau tau? He rau tau?
Kia pai to wiki o Te Whiki o Te Reo Māori.
A bit about Te Whiki o Te Reo Māori: Māori Language week has been celebrated each year from 1975. Māori Language Day is September 13 (yesterday) and commemorates the presentation of the 1972 Māori language petition to parliament. Mahuru Māori is an initiative which begun in 2017 to promote the use of and celebrate te reo Māori throughout the month of September.
Why a week? Why not a year? Why not a decade? A century? New Zealand are revitalising the Māori language and a part of that is celebration of our success and promoting te reo Māori.
Māori language week is an opportunity for concentrated celebration, promotion and encouragement. Every minute of every hour of every day is a Māori language minute – we can choose to use te reo – every time we do, even just a ‘Kia ora!’ contributes to the revitalisation of te reo.
This week our learners will be engaging in more te reo experiences to celebrate this special week. Ask your tamariki what they are learning about and if you’d like to support at home by using this link: https://www.reomaori.co.nz/ideas Have a wonderful Te Whiki o Te Reo Māori week.
Check out how SFDS tamariki were part of the world record setting challenge Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori 2021 in the following photos.
Have a great rest of the week and take care.

TOUCH RUGBY COACHING
Are you considering or planning to coach your child's touch rugby team? Then please read the information below from the organisers:
We HIGHLY recommend that all coaches attend one of the coaching clinics that we put on before the season starts. These courses are fantastic for rookie coaches, nervous volunteers and seasoned coaches to learn some tips and drills for coaching children and touch. The skills are transferable to other sports (and life). Ask anyone who has been to one and they will rave - and we mean RAVE about this session. Please share this information and the registration link with your coaches. https://www.sporty.co.nz/viewform/154639

CALENDAR ART
A heads up that the students are busy creating beautiful pieces of art that can be made into a calendar, diary, mouse pad, cards. These will be available to view and order at the end of the term. These make great Christmas gifts, so keep an eye out!
