Notes from the Principal...M-STEP
Dear Monfort Families,
This April, our students will have the opportunity to showcase their impressive Monfort learning on the M-STEP assessments. All students in Michigan schools in grades 3-8 and 11 will take the M-STEP (Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress). This assessment measures your child's growth and progress based on the Michigan Academic Standards.
Students in grades 3, 4, and 6 will be tested in Mathematics and English Language Arts, while our 5th-grade students will also be assessed in Science and Social Studies. Testing begins the week of April 7th.
To support our students in preparing for these assessments, the state of Michigan has provided helpful tools. Theyโve created a website with practice test items tailored to each grade level and content area, aligned with Michiganโs standards. You can access the practice items here: https://tinyurl.com/yt5es3ap.
I encourage you to ask your child to show you how to access their grade-level practice sets and consider sitting with them as they work through the practice items. The website also includes answer keys for all practice tests. Practicing at home will help build stamina and confidence, especially since these tools are new this year across all tests.
To be successful, your child will benefit from using their own headphones and mouse. Many children are using their headphones daily in class. Headphones will be provided as needed. If your child has a mouse, and has been using it in school, they may continue to use this valuable tool during M-STEP assessments. Electronic devices not permitted during testing sessions include, but are not limited to:
- any electronic device that can be used to record, transmit, or receive information, not used for testing
- computer tablet, iPads, e-readers (for example: Kindle)
- smart watches (for example: Fitbit, Apple, Garmin, Samsung watches; any watch with access to other applications or the Internet
- smart phones and cell phones
- Bluetooth headphones/earbuds (for example: Beats, iPods, or any headphones with access to other applications or the Internet)
- Smart glasses (for example: Google Glass)
- Desktop computers, laptops, Chromebooks
If your child has any of these devices, please keep them at home during the testing window, April 7 - May 16, 2025.
Thank you for supporting your child. With your help, we are confident your child will have a successful and positive M-STEP experience!
Warmly,
Jeanne Poleski
Acting Principal

Monfort Safety and Security
When entering Monfort...
We are asking for your assistance to ensure that our security procedures during the school day are effective. As many of you know, our school has a security camera, intercom, and buzzer at the front main entrance for use during the school day. To help us assist you when you would like to enter the school:
1. Please press the buzzer to speak with someone in the office
2. You will be asked to state your name and reason for visiting
3. You will be asked to show your photo ID into the security camera above the outside door
4. Office staff will then be able to buzz you inside
5. All visitors must immediately register in the office
In addition, we are asking you to not let any visitors in the door as you enter (and they come up behind you) or as you exit the building.
The teachers and staff are committed to student safety and security and we would like to thank you for your assistance in helping keep the students of Monfort safe!

Medication at School
Any child who needs to have medication administered at school will need to have completed medial forms on file for each medication. This includes over-the-counter medications, such as Tylenol/Advil, cough drops, allergy medication, and others.
Children may not bring any medication to school, including allergy medication, without signed medical forms on file. Please do not send medication to school in your child's backpack, such as inhalers, EpiPen, or over-the-counter medications as they will be asked to keep the medication in the office for parents to pick up. If your child needs to have medication in their backpack per Doctor recommendation, UCS requires the completed medical form to be on file with the office.
