Minnie Project
5th & 6th Grade Maturation Unit in HEART Class
The 5th and 6th grade boys and girls had their Maturation lesson in December. Please ask your child what was discussed during the lessons.
To go along with the girls maturation unit, The Disney PTO started a program called “The Minnie Project” at Disney Elementary. They collect feminine hygiene products for the 5th and 6th grade girls. Each kit comes in a cosmetic bag that contains a variety of pads, a Ziploc bag, a flushable wipe, an inspirational quote, and a travel size deodorant. We appreciate the support of the Disney PTO for this very important resource for the upper elementary girls at Disney Elementary. We are always taking donations. Please drop them off at the school office if you are willing to donate any supplies. Thank you very much to our parent volunteers for getting these kits together for our students!
Dress for the Weather
Ready or Not, the Cold Weather is Here...
Please be sure to send your child to school dressed for the weather each day. Before we know it, students will start needing warm coats, gloves, hats, scarves, and/or boots daily throughout the fall/winter.
A few notes regarding winter gear:
- Disney Elementary has received donations for coats, gloves, and hats. Please contact the main office if your child needs any of these winter items.
- Please take time to label each and every item- because our lost and found gets bombarded with lost winter accessories throughout the season
- Once we have snow not he ground, please note that students will not be allowed to play in the snow during recess without boots and snow pants. If your child does not have these items they will be required to stay on the blacktop during recess.
- Please note that, per Board Policy, we will be having outdoor morning lineup and heading outdoors for our 25 minute recess(es) if the windchill is 10+ degrees.
Time outdoors is time well spent for kids, in all seasons
Extra Clothes
Our students love playing outside and recess. Our playground is often muddy and students often come in from recess with wet and/or muddy clothes. Please make sure to have an extra set of clothes in your child's backpack in case of an accident throughout the school day. This will help prevent a call home for a change of clothes. Thank you!
Canvas Parent Account
All Fraser classroom teachers provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments to students utilizing the Canvas Learning Management System. As a result, students have continuous access to the course materials and information regarding their achievement.
Parents/Guardians can also have continuous access to their student’s course materials and grades in Canvas by creating a parent/observer account. In addition, parents of multiple students can easily switch between their students to view grades and assignments within the same parent account.
Parents can use Canvas to
Contact their child’s teacher
View grades, due dates, and events
See, and in many cases access, what the child is doing at school
Support an absent student
View classroom and building announcements
And more!
For the first step you will need to have two devices (tablet, laptop, computer or phone) available to be paired. One device will be used to log into your student’s canvas account. The other will be used to create your parent canvas account.
For parents/guardians of students whom are in young fives through 2nd Grade:
A QR code of your students’ username and password will have been sent home. Use your camera function to scan the QR code to access your student’s Canvas Account. If you are having issues with the QR code, contact your teacher or elementary media tech.
For parents/guardians of students whom are in 3rd-6th Grade:
To log in as your student, go to this website (preferably in Chrome, but Safari is okay):
https://www.fraser.k12.mi.us/myfps Click on the icon that says Canvas Student Login.
Your student should know their username and password. If not, contact his or her teacher or your elementary media tech.

Attendance Works
Start 2025 with Great Attendance
As we end winter break, we are grateful for everyone who has helped to restore a routine for showing up to school while supporting students and families. Daily routines are essential for reducing stress and creating a sense of security for students and adults.
Many of our families have demonstrated great attendance patterns throughout this school year and are on pace to finish the year with 9 or fewer absences- which is excellent! Some of our other families are working to improve their child's attendance rate by getting their child to school for as many 5-day weeks as possible! As each week passes that your child is here every day, their attendance rate improves and their lifelong habits of good attendance become more deeply engrained.
No matter where your family stands, working towards creating good attendance habits will help set students up for lifelong success. Attendance Works has put together a helpful list of tips to help keep your child healthy and in school.
We want to thank all our families, students, and staff for their continued support of our attendance initiatives. We're looking forward to partnering with you in 2025 to establish good attendance routines in our Disney Stars because that matters more than words can say!
Health Guidance for School
We want to partner with our families to make our school a safe, healthy and welcoming environment for your students. Make sure to send your child to school if they are generally healthy and able to participate in their usual day-to-day activities. Avoid keeping children at home unless they are too sick to participate. We have put together this helpful chart of when to keep your child home and when they can return to school for common illnesses
In Door Line Up Reminders
When the red flag is hung outside our front doors, this means indoor line-up. Students only can enter the building thru the main door (door #1) as well as the back door (door #18) starting at 8:20 AM.
Reminders - Please utilize the car drop-off line and students will enter in the back of the building (door #18). If your child needs assistance, please park in a parking spot and walk your child to the main entrance (door #1). Student drop off is NOT allowed in the bus loop during indoor lineup.
Parking Lot Reminders
We all know that the Disney parking lot is challenging at times, especially during the winter months. We understand that our dismissal can be stressful and intense with the high volume of car pickup students. From time to time it is important to review our procedures. If we all follow our parking lot procedures and practice patience, we will be able to quickly exit everyone safely
- Please stay all the way to the right in the pick-up line to allow others to enter the parking lot and thru traffic to pass
- Please refrain from parking anywhere other than designated parking spaces, this includes, parking in handicapped parking spots unless your handicap parking pass is properly displayed
- Please be distraction free - refrain from using cell phones, loud music, or other distracting activities. Pay attention and be on the lookout for people walking through the lots
- Please do not pull through the parking spaces to exit. Those parking should back out of parking spaces and utilize the thru traffic line to exit the parking lot.
- Please turn right on Kelly when exiting the parking lot for safety and to help assist with traffic flow.
- The driveway in the front of the school is for bus parking, emergency vehicles, and exiting traffic only. Please do not park or drop-off/pick-up students in the bus loop. Families may not park on Kelly and walk through the bus driveway at dismissal.
- Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
