MHS STUDENT & FAMILY NEWSLETTER
Week of September 9 - September 13, 2024
RSU 57 & Massabesic High School
"Preparing students for success in an ever-changing world."
Hello Mustang Nation,
Welcome back for Week 2 of our school year. I want to personally thank our students and families for their positive energy and effort to begin the school year. With a new academic schedule and structure there are bound to be minor adjustments as we all come together on campus and find out how things flow throughout the day - thank you for your patience and flexibility as we implement small adjustments to ensure that all students receive the support and services they deserve. As a reminder, our upcoming week will follow the GREEN & WHITE day schedule below:
Monday 9/9 - GREEN
Tuesday 9/10 - WHITE
Wednesday 9/11 - GREEN (Early Release Day - schedule linked below)
Thursday 9/12 - WHITE
Friday 9/13 - GREEN
Add/Drop - Semester 1
Our school counselors have been working hard to ensure that each student has a course schedule that reflects their needs and plans for the future. It is understandable that some small changes made need to be made as we get into the school year. We will ask all students to follow their schedule as it exists through Friday, September 6 to allow students to experience all their courses. If there are changes that need to be made students can make these requests of their school counselors until Friday, September 13 - this is the deadline for the Add/Drop period of Semester 1.
Late Bus @ MHS:
In an effort to continue to provide any kind of late bus services to our students, routes and stops have been consolidated and changed for this school year. We are incredibly grateful for the wonderful service that our Transportation Department drivers provide to our students each morning and afternoon getting from home to school and back home again. The Late Bus services are above and beyond daily requirements and are filled on a volunteer basis and we are grateful to the department for providing these opportunities to our students. In order to ensure that we provide a late bus service at all we have had to consolidate the number of runs and the distance that we travel to ensure that we have the capacity to provide the service - our operations last year were not sustainable and would not be sustainable this year. This change and information can present challenges to students and families. This is the level of additional service we are able to provide at this time. We are asking that families partner with us and meet students at the designated drop off points or plan to pick up their students at the high school following the conclusion of activities and events - we are able to take students closer to home during the late bus service, but we do not have the capacity to get students directly to their homes during this service. I know that the Transportation Department would like to do more, but this is our current bandwidth and capacity of service given personnel, budget, and time constraints.
Picture Day
Finally, tomorrow Monday, September 9 is Picture Day at MHS. All students and staff will get their photo taken for updated Student Identification Cards (used for many school events) and for updated photos in Synergy for proper identification. For any students who have not yet received picture forms there are additional forms in the Main Office and they can be filled out and returned after getting your photo taken.
Take care,
-Mr. Thurlow

Calling All Businesses, Industries, & Community Partners!
Massabesic High School is hosting an Annual Career Fair on October 23, 2024, from 7:30-11:30 am in the school’s gymnasium.
Our goal is to inspire the youth in our community to be Career and College ready. It is important for students to explore different career fields in a variety of interest areas or even explore options they have not yet considered. The Annual Career Fair enables students to connect with local companies and helps spread the word about your company and job openings.
We cordially invite you to be a part of this great event. If you are able to join us, you will be responsible for running a booth and discussing with students your workday and the skills and education needed to be successful in your particular career field. If you have any flyers or job postings available, this would be a great opportunity to bring them.
If you are interested in representing your business, please complete the form linked here.
Please feel free to email Marianne Stephenson if you have any questions mariannestephenson@rsu57.org.
