District Wide Pep Rally for our Mustang Football Team
Kay Conference-Mrs. Gallimore
KAYs Leadership team travelled to Junction City High School last Thursday for regional KAYs conference. During this time we were able to connect as a team, learn from other KAYs clubs, hear from community members who take on a leadership role, and ultimately gain knowledge to bring back to the club. We engaged in an activity with other groups designing "Hope" bags that will be filled for the homeless population in Junction City to utilize. Our KAY club donated hand warmers and new socks. The theme this year was "Waves of Service".

Today was a great day for Valley Heights staff. We were able to build connections with the community by going on tours of the Blue Rapids Museum, Georgia Pacific plant and Sharp manufacturing. Mustang Update
Congratulations to our coaching staff and football players for taking the next step in the state playoffs. The Mustangs are now one of four teams left in the Class 1A 11-Man picture. The game against Medicine Lodge started out with both team scoring early touchdowns but after that it was all Mustangs! The squad will now travel to Conway Springs for a 6:00 pm start on Friday night! We want to wish them well and hope to see them in Hutchinson a week from Saturday!! Admission prices for sub-state action will remain the same as previous playoff games โ Adults $8.00 and Students (K-12) - $6.00! Go Mustangs!
Our volleyball team continues to shine with more post-season honors being released this week! Ava Smith was named to the KVA 2A First Team All-State team and Mia Vermetten earned second team honors. Anne Toerber was selected for Honorable Mention honors. Ava Smith was also selected as the Class 2A Player-Of-The Year by the KVA. Congratulations to all of our award recipients! Anne Toerber was selected to play in the Northeast Kansas All-Star volleyball game at Highland Juco this past Saturday. Head coach Susan Steinfort was on the coaching staff for Anneโs squad. Great job!!
Student Council put together a fantastic pep assembly for our football team on Thursday morning! This was a district wide event so we were able to celebrate with all of our k-12 students and staff in the gym as well as the parents and fans! There was a lot of energy in the gym with music, cheers, a hype video and plenty of noise as we celebrated our football team and coaching staff! Best of luck Mustangs!
Members of our FFA Chapter travelled to Lawrence on November 20th to compete in the Northeast Kansas District Horse contest. Our varsity team placed 4th overall and the Greenhand team placed 9th. Klara McIntyre placed 2nd as an individual in the Greenhand contest. Congratulations to our chapter members and Ms. Carrie Husband, Advisor.
One very special group here at Valley Heights is our pool of Substitute Teachers! Without this support group it would be hard to function when staff members are ill, at a workshop or tending to family matters! November 22nd is National Substitute Educator Appreciation Day and we want to extend our extreme thanks to this group of people who help us out during the year! They include Dr. Ken Duensing, Barb Dummermuth, Regina Blaske, Terre Carter, Pam Dankenbring, Lynette Steele-Coon, Crystal Gordon, Robert Green, Donnie Kirkham, Shannon Turner, Megan Martin and Susan Winters. Thank you for being a large part of our staff here at Valley Heights!
Please remember that we have a 12:30 pm dismissal on November 22nd to allow for travel time to Conway Springs! Next week, classes will be in session only on Monday and Tuesday as we enter Thanksgiving Break. Most importantly, when we return to classes on December 2nd, we will only have 15 days of school left before the end of first semester! Please visit with your children about getting all work completed, AR test taken, etc. we finish this grading period on a strong note!
Have a great week and GO MUSTANGS!!
