Inclement Weather
As the cold weather sets in, we wanted to send out information about our cold weather policy. As a reminder, only students eating breakfast can enter the building at 7:30. All other students should not be dropped off until 7:45 as we do not have supervision.
For arrival, if the temperature feels like 23 degrees or less, all students will line up inside beginning at 7:45 when the supervision time begins. Students will be released to their classrooms at 7:55. For recess if the temperature feels like 23 degrees or less, students will have indoor recess. Once the temperature is above that threshold, outdoor recess will resume so please be sure students have appropriate warm weather gear.
Papa John's Tuesday
Our next Papa John's Tuesday is January 14! A perfect day to enjoy an easy dinner and support Eisenhower. You can order online too! Please remember to use our Ike School Code KSE007.
Nurse's Corner
Happy New Year! The cold weather has finally arrived and with it comes the flu and cold season. Flu, viral colds and the stomach bug are making their rounds at IKE and in the community.
Staying healthy during this season can seem daunting, but here are a few things you can do to keep you and your family well. Eat a well balanced diet, stay hydrated, get plenty of rest, exercise, practice good hand hygiene and take a good multivitamin. If your child does become ill with fever (temp of 99.6 or above), vomit or diarrhea, they must stay home until they are free of these symptoms for at least 24 hours from the last episode and without the use of medication (fever reducing meds etc…).
Remember that students go outside for recess if the feels like temperature is 23 degrees Fahrenheit or above. Extra care is needed, especially in younger children, to be sure that they have the appropriate outerwear every day during extreme weather. Dress warmly with coats, hats, gloves/mittens and scarves. Dressing in layers is best.
Stay warm and safe, Happy Winter!

Character Strong
This month is all about Perseverance. One way to think about Perseverance is “pushing yourself through challenges and obstacles.” We all experience challenges in our lives. We all have moments when we feel like we can’t do it or that we want to give up on a big task. It is important to develop tools that help us work through those challenges in order to grow in those moments instead of giving up. How might you practice Perseverance as a family this month?
Perseverance is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Strong. Across grade levels, students will be developing skills like focusing, organizing, and goal-setting.
Hearts Apart
Fort Leavenworth Unified School District 207 offers a wonderful program we refer to as "Hearts Apart." Hearts Apart is designed to help students cope with the deployment of a parent. Your permission is required for your child to participate.
Hearts Apart provides students and families with a sense of community and belonging district wide. This is a great opportunity for spouses and their children to enjoy good food, relax, and enjoy the conversation and company of others. These events help children and their families understand that they are not alone in their experiences.
