Norwood News
October 18, 2024
Dear Norwood families,
I hope you had a wonderful week! At Norwood this week there were several programs that took place in addition to our regular daily schedule of core academics and specials.
On Wednesday, October 16th Norwood School recognized Unity Day with staff and students wearing orange to show their support against bullying.
Today, students and staff their favorite sports jerseys as part of our monthly PBIS spirit day. Many students sported their Phillies, Eagles and Norwood gear to also support our local teams. Good luck to the Eagles this weekend.
Our Gold Coin winners this week are Jy'Sir Benson, Dylen Greene, and Tyler Buchanan.
Next week is Red Ribbon Week. Monday, students can wear RED to show their pride to be drug free. Tuesday, students should wear crazy socks to "sock it to drugs". On Wednesday, students can wear tye-dye to "peace out to drugs". Thursday is "throwback Thursday", students can wear their favorite childhood picture or Disney shirt. On Friday, students can dress like their favorite movie character.
Friday night, October 25th at 6:30 pm will start our Home and School’s Indoor Trunk or Treat event. Please come out to support this event by having a “trunk” or just “treating”. For more information, please see the flyer in this newsletter.
October 31st will be our spirit day where students can dress for Halloween in school appropriate costumes (no masks or toy weapons) or in fall colors. Norwood School will have a Halloween parade in the afternoon for elementary school students. The parade will start at 1:30 pm from the cafeteria doors (off the Seneca Avenue bus loop). Students and staff will walk toward the corner of Seneca Avenue and School Lane and travel down School Lane toward the parking lot. The parade will continue onto the school grounds to a side door where students will reenter the building. The parade will start with first grade students, then second through fifth grades in grade order. Middle School students will have a PBIS "Halloween Candy Salad" reward on this day. On November 1st, middle school students will participate in an event called the Harvest competition where students will get the chance to compete against their teachers during 9th period.
Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing your Norwood students on Monday.
There are many other activities and community events listed in this newsletter.

October is Bullying Prevention Month:
Hello Norwood Families,
October is Bullying Prevention Month! This month we will be offering different lessons or activities to educate our students about what bullying is, how bullying can harm others, and steps to take if students witness bullying or are being bullied. We want to share some of this same information with you all as well. The following infographics have been included to add to your understanding of what bullying means. Here at Norwood we prioritize our student’s safety and want to encourage all of our students to be upstanders instead of bystanders. We encourage you to talk to your students about bullying. The National Bullying Prevention Center is a great resource to use: PACER website.
Thank you,
Mrs. Flicker (Elementary Counselor) and Ms. Sokolowski (MS Counselor)

CHIP Information
Pennsylvania Act 84 of 2015 requires that public and nonpublic schools receive electronic notice with general information about the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) on an annual basis no later than August 15. The attached flyer was created and should be shared with every parent or guardian of every student enrolled in the local education agency (LEA) during the school year.
CHIP covers uninsured children and teens up to age 19 – and no family earns too much to qualify. With nearly 128,000 uninsured children in Pennsylvania, this is great news for families!
CHIP provides quality, comprehensive health insurance for routine doctor’s visits, prescriptions, dental, eye care, eyeglasses, mental health, and much more. CHIP covers uninsured kids who are not eligible for Medical Assistance. For many families, CHIP is free – for others, it is low cost.
The flyer and many more resources can be found on the CHIP website at www.CHIPcoversPAkids.com, under CHIP Resources.
