Hello Hoover Families,

Yay, we have a whole week of school! 🤣 Please make sure to keep an eye on the weather this week. The temperature is getting warmer, but the wind we have had lately can feel much cooler outside. So please ensure students are dressed in layers for when they are outside during arrival, recess, and dismissal times during the day.

Spiritwear orders were delivered and passed out to students who ordered. Please make sure you check your students' backpacks!

Trimester 2 report cards are now live and can be accessed online. Please continue to scroll down in this newsletter for more directions on how to view them. We encourage families to review them with their student(s) to celebrate areas of strength and set goals for areas to improve.

We welcome ALL students and families to our fashion show during our World Arts Celebration event! If you're unsure what attire to wear, please don't hesitate to contact Ms. Nash with any questions. We would love to see our students' family traditions and cultures represented.

At Hoover Elementary School, we have Mr. Marcus Adams, MS, providing school-based mental health services. As a school-based provider, Mr. Adams can meet with students and their families to address their mental health needs. Students may benefit from support if impacted by:

Life Circumstances:

• Moving or changing school

• Experiencing homelessness

• Separation and divorce

• Communication problems

• Problems at school and/or home

• Experiencing a traumatic event (abuse,

  major medical illness or injury, death of a

  loved one, natural disaster, accident, impacts of COVID-19, etc.)

Concerning Thinking, Feeling, or Behaving:

• Daily sadness, negative thinking, crying

• Frequent stress, worrying, or ongoing fears

• Bothered by unwanted memories

• Changes to sleeping, eating, or energy

• Talk of suicide or giving up

• Frequent headaches or stomachaches

• Problems with behavior

Elementary school report cards will be available to view ONLINE ONLY.

Elementary school report cards will be available online. This change was made district-wide last school year. Families will be able to access report cards by logging into A-HConnect or viewing it on the ParentVUE mobile app.

To ensure access to the report cards that is available now, families are encouraged to make sure they have their login information now. Currently, report cards from last school year are available for viewing.

How to view report cards from A-HConnect (view detailed instructions):

• Login to A-HConnect.

• Click on the ‘My Student Information/ParentVUE’ icon.

• Select a student from the dropdown menu.

• Select ‘Documents.’

• Select and view the applicable report card from the ‘Documents’ window.

• The report card will open in a new tab where the capabilities to download or print will be available.

View from the ParentVUE app:

• Go to the AppStore or Google Play and search for the ParentVUE app.

• Enter your zip code when prompted, and select “Anoka-Hennepin School District” from the menu options.

• Confirm ‘yes’ and select ‘Already Activated,’ if prompted.

• Use login/password to login.

• Select a student from the student list.

• Select ‘Documents.’

• Select and view the applicable report card.

• Click the share button to save or share the PDF.

STARBASE Minnesota Inc. — one 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a single mission of educating and inspiring Minnesota youth in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), benefiting thousands of Minnesota youth each year. Hoover 5th-grade students were offsite for 5 days to engage in a hands-on, interactive learning environment that was amazing! Thank you to the many parent/family volunteers who chaperoned and were able to experience it with our students. Here are pictures from the learning fun!

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is marked each year on March 21, beginning in 2007. The 21st day of March (the third month of the year) was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which causes Down syndrome. Our Hoover students and staff "rocked our socks" off to this globally recognised event, which aims to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and celebrate the achievements and contributions of people with Down syndrome. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Thank you again to all our students and families who attended our Bingo Night and supported our PTO! It was a lot of fun, and Herbie, our mascot, was such a big hit and well-loved with the many hugs our students gave! Click here for more pictures.

Reading Bridge pairs trained volunteers with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders to practice reading together at once a week at the library. Click on the links provided and reach out to the libraries for more information.

Availability is limited, but you can still secure your young scientist’s opportunity to ignite creativity, teamwork, and a love for STEM! Our summer camps are the ultimate way to spend the summer, packed with hands-on activities, social relationship building, and a whole lot of fun.

The SMM may have a bit of everything for your littles to code, launch, dissect, and play. Check out our available options for every age group, providing a place for them to Code a Bot, Get Set to be a Vet, Fly Float Vroom, and more.

Please send an extra pair of pants and underwear for your child in case there is an accident (bathroom, breakfast/lunch spill, etc.). The health office loves donations of gently used sweatpants and leggings sizes 5-10. We also appreciate new packs of underwear for boys and girls sizes 5-10.

The health office has free at home Covid tests. Email Darlene.Anderson@ahschools.us and we can send them home with your child.

If your child goes to the doctor or dentist, please request a doctor's note and send it with your child for attendance purposes.

February was a crazy month! Thank you so much to all who volunteered to make everything Hoover did in February possible! We had I love to read week, multiple field experience days, dental sealant program, the blood drive, every meal, workroom projects and more!

March is here and hopefully this beautiful weather we've had intends to stay with us in March! We have more field experience dates this month, Chipotle dining night, Bingo night and picture day happening this month. You can find sign ups for the volunteer opportunities we have HERE.

If signing up for field experiences, you will want to reach out to your child's teacher. Please make sure when signing up for field experiences you are watching your email. I will notify you via email if any paperwork is needed, if you've been selected for the field experience or if you aren't if we have too many sign up and will also notify you via email with reminders like arrival time, if lunch is needed, etc.

Spring Break is just around the corner. I will be out of the office starting March 7th and will return on March 18th. I will respond to any calls and emails at that time.

Just a reminder that any volunteer 18 years or older must complete the volunteer application and background check each school year. Those 17 and younger only need to complete the volunteer application each school year.

Spring Carnival - May 2

We are entering planning mode; can you believe it!! It is the time of year that we start to solicit donations for our raffle and find the best deals for game prizes. We need a bunch of volunteers for this event, and we’d love your help too.

HundredX – May 12 through June 10

Our HundredX Fundraiser is back this school year. It's great because families and supporters don't have to buy anything. They only need to complete surveys about their recent shopping or business interactions.

Dining Nights

We have two upcoming dining nights on the calendar, Monday, February 17 at Smashburger and Wednesday, March 5 at Chipotle.

During the school year, it can be hard for families to find ways to connect with each other. Adults are busy with work and other obligations; children are busy with school, homework, and other activities. Building connections into your day can be as simple as including your child in daily activities like running errands, preparing a meal, or playing together.

Another option is to go to https://www.boxtops4education.com/ to learn more about downloading the app to scan receipts for box tops for Hoover Elementary.

The Anoka-Hennepin School District allows qualifying flyers from nonprofit groups to be distributed at school and sent home with students. These flyers have gone through the district approval process. A virtual gallery of flyers is also available. These events, classes and activities are not sponsored or endorsed by Anoka-Hennepin Schools.

This does NOT change our regular flyer policies or procedures! To have a flyer posted, the organization still needs to go through the process, be approved, and deliver paper flyers to schools in our district.
