Dr. Patterson's Weekly Update
Eagle Pride: Video by Dr. Patterson
July 20, 2019
Happy Saturday!!
We have had a wonderful first week of school! Thank you for your support as we begin another fantastic year at Clyde Erwin Elementary Magnet School! We have been working hard during our summer intercession to make the school clean, colorful, and inviting. Please encourage your students to respect our school and help us maintain a beautiful learning environment. Beginning Day 1, teachers and staff have been working to establish our positive expectations throughout the building. See our Positive Behavior Expectations below, and review these with your students often. Our first PBIS School-wide Celebration is August 9. We would LOVE to see 100% of our students attend! Eagle Pride!
Fundraisers
Fundraisers help our school raise funds for PBIS celebrations, student clubs, and supplies for our IB units. Our first fundraiser is a student dress-down day this Friday, July 26 for $1.00. Students are only allowed to wear clothes other than the required uniforms on these special dress-down days. We appreciate your support and help raising money for our school by allowing your students to dress down this Friday. This money directly benefits students.
Third Grade Beginning-of-Grade Reading Test
All third graders will take the Beginning-of-Grade Reading Test on Tuesday, July 30. This test covers the third grade reading curriculum students should master by the end of the year. This test is required by the state of North Carolina as a pre-test to establish what students know at the beginning of the year and measure growth during their third grade year. Student mastery is measured by the Beginning-of-Grade Test, formative reading assessments throughout the year, and the End-of-Grade Test. Students will have multiple opportunities throughout the year to demonstrate mastery for Read to Achieve. If you have additional questions about Read to Achieve, please contact your child's teacher or Dr. Patterson.
International Baccalaureate
Clyde Erwin Elementary Magnet School is the only International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in North Carolina east of I-95. Onslow County Schools also offers the Middle Years Programme at Northwoods Park Middle School and the Diploma Programme at Jacksonville High School.
Students at International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools are given a unique education. They will:
- be encouraged to think and drive their own learning.
- take part in programmes of education that can lead them to some of the highest ranking universities around the world.
- become more culturally aware through the development of a second language.
- be able to engage with people in an increasingly globalized, rapidly changing world.
We will be providing information about your student's learning and critical thinking throughout the year.To learn more about IB, visit https://www.ibo.org
