What a GREAT weekend!
There are moments that you remember, and Saturday's event will be one of those for many of us! My own extended family was able to attend and see the campus. My family and community members were so impressed by the day to day learning your children engage in at Hisle! It was exciting to watch children paint, sing, and show off the campus to our community!
We're settling into our routine. Children will be completing September ISIP and MAPP testing to get a baseline by THIS Friday along with each child will be reading with his or her classroom teacher. One important component is family knowledge of learning. Printed copies of progress reports and testing outcomes will come home in your Friday Folder on September 20th. At the end of first nine weeks, we will schedule in-person family conferences to talk about your child's progress so mark your calendar for the week of October 14th! Our goal is to partner with you to ensure families know if their child is making expected progress in the enrolled grade level.
Looking at the calendar, we have a few days of recognition that your children will participate in over the course of the next few weeks including "Celebrate Freedom" Week during the week of September 16th. This week, we will discuss 'First Responder's Day" and "Patriot Day" on September 11th. This day is one we are required to share with children. We recognize that families may have different stories they wish to share or discuss. At Hisle, one story we will discuss with our staff is our students were not born yet and the importance of messaging. Our message is one of community, hope, and patriotism which align to our state standards. Some classrooms will read a book called 30,000 stitches about a community working together to sew the USA flag back together. You can listen to the story here. It is important to share that together we can do good things!
Remember, as Hisle Hounds, we howl loud and proud!

School Attendance MATTERS!
Communication is Important!
Regular attendance is an essential ingredient for success, both in school and the workplace. We want our children to be here everyday for both academic and social growth, in order to prepare them for the future. If your child is absent, please email hisleattendance@leanderisd.org so that those absences can be coded appropriately. Excused absences include illness, doctor appointment, or attending a funeral. Traveling is not an excused absence, even when the parent notifies you or us ahead of time. Families are notified via Remind after 3 unexcused absences, you will receive an email after 7 unexcused absences, and then another notification after 10 unexcused absences. Once your child has 7 or more unexcused absences, families are required to watch an Online Truancy Prevention Session as a result of those unexcused absences. It is important to know and understand that the same laws apply to PreK and kindergarten students. Though it is an option for parents to enroll in PreK/Kindergarten, once enrolled, they are required to follow the same attendance laws. Extended vacations are not an excused absence for any child enrolled in school. Please reach out to Marcia Fields if you have any questions or concerns regarding attendance for your children.

A Change of Clothes
It is highly recommended that students keep a change of clothing in their backpack. Please make sure that clothing is labeled with your student’s name.

Volunteer Opportunities
Campus Site-Based Committee
Each year, our campus has a site-based committee thst discussed our campus student data and campus improvement plan. This group includes staff, administrators, family members, business members, and community members. We meet four times a year on Thursday evenings, and we'd love to hear your voice! Our first meeting will be October 10th at 5:30pm at Hisle Elementary.
If you are interested in joining this group and helping impact learning at Hisle, please reach out to niki.prndle@leanderisd.org
Hearing and Vision Screening Help!
Each year, we do hearing and vision for the majority of our students (Prek4, Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th). Nurse Dodd could use a few extra sets of hands to help organize materials and traffic flow during this time. If you are available and would like to volunteer, please contact kimberly.dodd@leanderisd.org. You can opt to volunteer for a full day or half day! It's what works for you!
Make Your Mark Campaign!
This Friday (9/13), we will kick off our Make Your Mark Campaign! This is a direct contribution fundraiser, which means 100% of the funds raised will go to the Hisle PTO to support student enrichment, field trips, community events, staff appreciation, and more! Be on the lookout for more information this FRIDAY!
How do I get involved with our Hisle PTO?
Please make sure you've filled out the 24-25 volunteer information form to let us know opportunities you might be interested in helping with. It'll also allow you to share ideas about what events you'd like to see on campus!
We are still looking for a Staff Appreciation Chair. There is no experience required for this position... just a willingness to help out and support our staff and kids! Please reach out to Hello@HislePTO.org if you're interested, or would like more information!
