GIRLS SOCCER
10/14/24
On Monday the Lady Eagles crossed the bridge for a showdown with Division Rival, Ocean City. The two top teams of the Conference kicked off at Tennessee Avenue and Mother Nature was not happy. Winds were gusting at 30mph and the ball did not like it. EHT defended the wind very well in the first half before giving up the game's first goal. Halftime found the Mighty Eagles down by one goal. Senior Goalie, Abby Lyon, made four crucial saves in the first half to keep her team in the game. The second half seemed to rejuvenate the Raiders and they were able to sneak two more goals in the net. The final whistle blew and Ocean City had three goals to EHT’s zero. A hard-fought game and a tough loss but the Eagles will soar again.
The Lady Eagles earned the number one overall seed in the CAL playoff tournament. The Eagles have a first round bye and will play the winner of OLMA vs Mainland. The game will be played at Silver Eagle Stadium on Monday, Oct 21, 2024@ 2pm.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Girls' volleyball had 3 very exciting matches so far this week.
On Monday, Ocean City visited EHTHS and were dispatched in 2 sets by all 3 levels of the team. Juniors Samantha Battersby and Alyssa Hickey led the way with 4 assists. Senior leader Journey Green had a spectacular showing with 9 kills and 0 hitting errors. Overall, the team played really well. Beating local schools, especially CAL schools, remains a top priority.
On Wednesday a top twenty team in the entire state of NJ visited The Nest. Despite one of our stronger efforts in recent memory, Cherry Hill East narrowly escaped with the victory. They remain undefeated on the season for the time being. Sophomore Kaylee Beck had an incredible, including 6 aces and 11 assists. Senior Averie Harding had 8 kills and Ella Douglass played well in the back-row with 6 digs.
On Thursday, the team made history by advancing to the 2nd round of the CAL tournament. The JV and freshman squads brought the ruckus from the bleachers and cheered varsity on to their first ever CAL tournament victory. Despite dropping a tough 2nd set, the team bounced back and won the 3rd set. Journey Green responded with 3 kills in the final set alone. Junior Avery Hickey also had 3 kills in the final set. Junior Keira Fahy had a clean game with 2 kills and 0 errors.
The girls' team moves on to the semi-final round Tuesday afternoon. The team REALLY NEEDS FANS AND SUPPORT FROM THE FLOCK during this showdown versus division foe, Hammonton.
