Michelle Sked
Mrs. Sked goes above and beyond daily for the students and staff at Eagle Point Middle School. She arrives early to school every morning taking calls from parents when their student is sick and making sure that all of our guest teachers are ready to go for the day. When teachers arrive at school Mrs. Sked greets them with a smile, and she eagerly answers any questions that they may have. Mrs. Sked ensures that everyone has what they need to be successful, and she is an amazing relationship builder. Mrs. Sked makes sure that all of the students are placed in the classes that they want, and looks after them when they get a boo boo. She leads with flexibility and patience and for this we would like to congratulate her with the Eagle Point Middle School’s Staff Recognition Award. Michelle truly makes EPMS a wonderful place to be for all. Thank you Mrs. Sked for all you do!
Leah Williams
Mrs. Williams supports students in a variety of ways: helping kids close the gap in their learning through study skills and supporting them with all of their classes. She is an advocate for all students. Mrs. Williams also has a very welcoming classroom where students can just take a break. With all this and so much more that she does, Mrs. Williams always has a smile, laugh, or story to share with colleagues. She lifts up everyone around her. Mrs. Williams has an amazing attitude and is always willing to go above and beyond. Thank you Mrs. Williams for all you do! We all appreciate you!
We Hope to See You There!

Eagles Abroad 2024
Japan Spring Break 2024!
Danielle Slayton is a senior at Eagle Point High School who spent her Spring Break in Japan!
She was one of the 21 students who departed for Japan on March 20th and returned on March 29th. The group consisted of mostly senior students, a few juniors, and 5 adult chaperones. They visited the cities of Osaka, Kyoto, Takayama, Kanazawa and Tokyo. They also saw many historic sites including; the Golden Temple, Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, Kanazawa Castle, Kenroku-en Garden, Meiji Shinto Shrine, Kiyomizu Temple.
When Danielle arrived in Japan, she thought she would be more impacted by the time difference. Instead, she and most of the group were able to start partaking in the sites and surroundings without hesitation. Danielle had a vague idea of Japanese culture as her older sister is educated and interested in it. That being said, she wanted to keep an open mindset and couldn’t wait to submerge herself in a different social environment.
We asked Danielle about her experience and she shared,
“The food was so delicious! It food felt good to eat and the public transportation amazed me. The hotels seemed very nice and clean. They even provided you pajamas with in the hotel room! Whenever you have a new experience it opens your worldview and gives you a different perspective. The one thing I really liked was how everyone seemed considerate of those around them. The people seemed to be mindful of shared community space. I want more of that in my life.”
A generalized sense of the sights and the cultural areas visited were very eye-opening for the group. A sense of peacefulness pervaded all of our experience. It was easy to navigate, the tour guide was quite knowledgeable, and felt like part of the Eagles Abroad family.

EPSD9 & Destination Imagination
Destination Imagination
"Destination Imagination is a global STEAM-based competition where participants select 1 of 6 challenges to solve as a team. Each team creates a presentation to showcase their solution and must create all components of their solution themselves, without interference from adults, teachers, etc. Eagle Point School District 9 was represented by a Shady Cove Elementary team, a Shady Cove Middle School team, and an Eagle Point High School team at the State Tournament on March 16th in Portland. The Elementary and High School teams each selected the engineering challenge which required them to build a device that could consistently launch a bean bag to a maximum distance 4 times, then undergo a modular change, and launch to the same distance another 4 times.
The elementary team created a sling-shot style device with arms that could rise or lower and created a story around plane-wrecked passengers needing to cross a chasm in order to reach a distant village for medical help. They won First Place in their division. The team consisted of Lena Cordova, Abigail Brougher, Cody Flack, and Mason Miller.
The middle school selected the science challenge where they were tasked with creating a storyline around an archeological object they discovered and utilizing science to find out about the object. They also had to create a puppet as a historical figure in their presentation. The team chose Abraham Lincoln's top hat as their artifact and then made James Watson, the scientist responsible for the discovery of DNA, as their puppet. The team used a chemical analysis and DNA evidence from a hair they found in the hat to determine the hat's famous connection. The team won second place in their division. The team consisted of Levi Flack, Serenity Harper, Donovan Robey, and Cesar Villalobos.
The High School team built a compressed-air PVC cannon to launch their beanbags and created a story around cavemen, aliens, and teamwork required to defeat a rampaging t-rex. They also won First Place in the high school division as well as 1 of only 3 distinctive Renaissance Awards out of all the teams competing. The team consisted of Caleb Sexton, Gideon Flack, Cody Wilbur, Austin Kelsay, and Caleb Brougher.
This event is filled with creative exploration, education, and collaboration. The projects built in Destination Imagination require hands-on problem-solving, teamwork, and presenting. We encourage students to participate in STEAM opportunities like these and are extremely proud of our 13 scholars representing Eagle Point School District!
